Books read in March 2024

I think I am acclimating to the faster pace life is going. At least, things seem to be a bit easier, except when I procrastinate.

Defiance of the Fall 12 by TheFirstDefier/J.F. Brink, twelfth in the DotF series. Five stars, finished March 4, 2024.
Leisurely but also workaholic.
Zac is expectedly set on bulldozing forward on his path, and dragging friends along for the ride. I really like Catheya, even as I really didn’t like Thea. That will be an interesting meeting, although perhaps more peaceful than I worried. The little monks are kind of driving me crazy. They’re everywhere. A great book, and had me biting my nails at multiple points. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

A Scion’s Duty by Tom Elliott, sixth in the Grand Game series. Five stars, finished March 6, 2024.
Over too soon
This isn’t A short book, but it still ended too soon. I love how he adopts “pups” constantly. Some characters are both more and less than expected, and the guardians are different than what I thought. The whole spirit cheat for multiple attempts at lycanthropy had me laughing. A fun and thrilling read, and I’m looking forward to reading more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
A Scion’s Duty, The Grand Game, Book 6: A Dark Fantasy LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/hHE5y6a

The Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey, zero/prequel to the Elemental Masters series. Five stars, finished May 7, 2024.
A good reread
The Wiccan book club I’m in opted to read this book for February, and I enjoyed the reread. It’s amusing seeing parallels between the book philosophy and actual Wiccan philosophy. It would be cooler perhaps if we could command or ask for magic like in this book though. This was a cute Beauty and the Beast retelling. The things Du Mond, or as another group member dubbed “the Bad Guy”, got up to were honestly way too detailed. The extent of his depravity could have been mentioned without details. Checked out from my library.
The Fire Rose (Elemental Masters Book 1) https://a.co/d/0zA3cqJ

Saintess Summons Skeletons by Mornn, first in the series of the same name. Five stars, finished March 11, 2024.
Cute and fun
Sophia is amusing as a partial classer. Her split class gives her a lot of overpowered options and I love it. Pareth is sweet. I was surprised that Alitha went the way she did towards the end. The powerful not giving any information on the sneaky patron and last name had me agreeing with Sophia’s frustration. I can see this becoming a mood boosting series for me. The tidbits that are suddenly thrown out didn’t have a build up or context, and were mostly ignored, so that was my only issue with the story. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Saintess Summons Skeletons: A Holy Necromancy LitRPG (Book 1) https://a.co/d/f0ezfBL

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, first in the series of the same name. Three stars, finished March 16, 2024.
I wish I had read this before seeing the movie. They’re completely different stories, with extremely different personalities. The bare bones are alike, but that’s about it. This was a nice book. It was maudlin and a bit depressing for most of it, but it does end positively. I like how everyone is so completely imperfect. We see their thoughts, internal struggles, and all from an outside viewpoint. Read because of a book club, checked out from my library.

Unexpected Healer by Jonathan Brooks, first in the Earthen Contenders series. Five stars, finished March 19, 2024.
Amusing book with a shocking start
The beginning of the book could mentally scar a person. The mundane yet graphic explanation of Thaden’s first hours had me picturing coyote and roadrunner cartoons. This book is hilarious in a way, and I love that a healer can do damage or cheat the system like this. I can only imagine what will happen next, especially with that ending. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

World Seal by David North, seventh in the Guardian of Aster Fall series. Five stars, finished March 22, 2024.
Always exciting
The divisions/avatars make this even more fun to read. Sam is able to focus on many different projects, and each avatar multiplies what he is capable of. I still love the crafting aspect. Little sis doesn’t really make much of an appearance. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
World Seal (Guardian of Aster Fall Book 7) https://a.co/d/2fw6mpT

The Wolf’s Advance by Shane Purdy, second in the Wolf of the Blood Moon series. Five stars, finished March 27, 2024.
More interpersonal depth
This book showed a deeper aspect to Scarlet, specifically her emotions and interactions with people. I am interested in what the prophecy could be, and how Scarlet might make that into an unexpected result. Her family doubled in this book, at least the ones she knows about. I look forward to being a fly on the wall when she learns more revelations. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Wolf’s Advance: A Blood Magic Lycanthrope LitRPG (Wolf of the Blood Moon Book 2) https://a.co/d/iFsmCKH

Mandate of Heaven by Selkie Myth, eleventh in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Five stars, finished March 30, 2024.
Beautiful, but still a disjointed ending.
The main storyline is exciting, sometimes sad, and fun to read. The relationship between Elaine and Iona is sweet. Their Fox grows up a lot, as does Auri. Those parts were a bit sad. The end of the book again had events out of order and some read like a blooper reel. Just put them in the story chronologically already, because it can be confusing and annoying. The Kirin and the Phoenixes at the end are funny. I think that will be a hilarious meeting. I read this with Kindle Unlimited. This series has gone on and off of KU, so check before you buy or check out.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: Mandate of Heaven https://a.co/d/2xxp6Yb

I’m sad that I’m not reading more for fun, and it is affecting my mental health. However, I’m studying and learning more in my chosen path, and that is fun and fulfilling in its own way.

Books read in February 2024

The year seems to already speeding up, and I am mentally whiplashed lol.

The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 5 by Noret Flood, fifth in the LoRG series. Two stars, finished February 3, 2024.
A drag.
Before this book, I enjoyed the series. Randidly was fun to follow, relatable in his people skills (worse than none), and the adventures were emotionally intense. I hated following randoms, even if they became tangentially connected due to knowing relatives. The whole farce after Naveah has her say was also a nope from me. The issues probably started when Lyra went off the rails in previous books. Currently, I see no reason to continue the story. Especially if we’re play acting and allowing puppets. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Goddess Reborn by Rain Harlow, first in the Mirror World Progression Saga. Five stars, finished February 4, 2024.
Exciting
Definitely a trippy beginning, but very interesting (in the “interesting times” manner). Sammy is awesome. She’s amusing and her antics just drew me in. I love a powerful woman. The book was so much more and better than I expected. I loved the climactic end too. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Goddess Reborn: An Isekai LitRPG Fantasy (The Mirror World Progression Saga Book 1) https://a.co/d/cSlfDz5

Abyssal Rift by KrazeKode, second in the Rise of the Devourer series. Five stars, finished February 6, 2024.
So much fun
I think the best thing I love about this series is how there really isn’t a hopelessness from the main character. It makes the adventure lighter, even with heavy topics. It’s funny how things keep working out, and even parts that seem to be trying to place limits on him only result in more OP growth. I’m glad murder bunny has a happy adventure now too. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Rise of the Devourer 2: Abyssal Rift: (A LitRPG Adventure) https://a.co/d/iHv7otN

Magical and Activist Ancestors: Exploring Tangled Roots by Luke Hauser, nonfiction. Three stars, finished February 8, 2024.
Historically informative
This was honestly a very dry read for me, but Alexa reading it to me helped with that efficiently. I read this as a first book in a book club. If others had not pointed it out, I would have thought the book was finished when the first bibliography was after a chapter. There’s another chapter, and some more tidbits after a second bibliography. I liked the legacies sections. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Magical and Activist Ancestors: Exploring Tangled Roots https://a.co/d/dveXZDF

Goddess Descension by Rain Harlow, second in the Mirror World Progression Saga. Four stars, finished February 10, 2024.
That almost ending though
The endings have me slack jawed. Growth happens, Sammy gets more attached to this new life, and some more curve balls are thrown. Rememberings, Fate, and more. Absolutely enjoyable. I did not expect the power the enemy has, nor the sheer history that entails. This story is becoming complex, and I’m still invested. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Proven Strength by Daniel Schinhofen, eighth in the Aether’s Revival series. Five stars, finished February 13, 2024.
Nope didn’t expect that.
At this point I think I’d enjoy a prequel or mythology text from this world explaining the real history of Aether and those attached to him. I didn’t expect the revelation at the end (not the identities, those were obvious). I also didn’t expect the revelation from Darkness. My preconceptions have been dashed. Highly enjoyable, and I hope to enjoy more in this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Proven Strength (Aether’s Revival Book 8) https://a.co/d/9Hw3tSi

Voidknight Ascension by James T. Callum and K.H. Sohmer, first in the Voidknight Ascension series. Five stars, finished February 16, 2024.
Entertaining
This was a cute and funny read. Komachi is my favorite, and the epitome of cuteness overload. There are quite a few plots that seem to be zeroing on Sam as a target. It is never good when deities find you amusing and want to play. The last part was absolutely frustrating. Like, this whole battle and then bam who are you? Not fair. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Voidknight Ascension: A LitRPG Apocalypse https://a.co/d/ifuqI9E

System Interference by SunriseCV, fifth in the System Universe series. Five stars, finished February 18, 2024.
Silvi is the best murderbunny chef.
Silvi may not have many cameos until near the end, but her innocent and brutal actions are hilarious and cute. Also, and spoiler for this sentence even if not specific, “CAN I EAT AN ELF?!” 😂 The System shenanigans, and the individual we meet are foreboding. Derek may get dragged into drama, even if the crazy bloodlust guy won’t cause that all on his own. Exciting read with some surprises thrown in. I loved it. I need more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
System Interference: A LitRPG Adventure (System Universe Book 5) https://a.co/d/5oSWUCi

Voidknight Ascension 2 by James T. Callum and K.H. Sohmer, second in the VA series. Five stars, finished February 24, 2024.
Wholesome
The characters in this are just so sweet, minus Darren who is barely a side character, and the overall adventure is very wholesome. I am even more curious about soul aeders. There’s still violence, but that’s to be expected in a series about the Incarnate of War. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
This book seems to be unavailable for now. I will try to update this with a link at a later time. In the meantime, depending on if or when it comes back, you should be able to find it by clicking on the link to the first book and then scrolling down to view other books in this series.

The Arcane Academy by Shane Purdy, first in the Undying Magician series. Five stars, finished February 25, 2024.
Entertaining
I can see some potential issues Nathan may have if he’s completely frozen, but I think the doctor let slip how Nathan can overcome that limitation. It’s hilarious how those who try to remain on the outskirts get dragged into the limelight. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Arcane Academy: A Dystopian High Fantasy Series (The Undying Magician Book 1) https://a.co/d/0prLKh4

Kingdom of the Fallen by Shane Purdy, second in the Undying Magician series. Five stars, finished February 26, 2024.
I love this Author
It’s understandable that Nathan feels a disconnection from his friends, family, and new acquaintances. He’s definitely traumatized, and lives knowing he can’t die. That is a profound phrase. He doesn’t think “I won’t die.” It’s always can’t, which implies a desire. At least that’s how I found the story. I halfway like the one s class he meets. This has a large training arc. I am disappointed in his friends not paying attention to what Nathan says. Also, this story mentions mint ice cream enough that know want some. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Kingdom of the Fallen: A Dystopian High Fantasy Series (The Undying Magician Book 2) https://a.co/d/0b8yYqL

The Scarlet Wolf by Shane Purdy, first in the Wolf of the Blood Moon series. Five stars, finished February 28, 2024.
Hilarious and fun
Scarlet is perfect. She has some weird hang ups about clothes, specifically hating anything revealing, but it’s an amusing quirk. Tar is fun, and I like how they’re becoming closer. I really want Scarlet to meet her bio parents, just to see if she’ll have a reaction. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Scarlet Wolf: A Blood Magic Lycanthrope LitRPG (Wolf of the Blood Moon Book 1) https://a.co/d/1BZqlcq

The Healer’s Way by Oleg Sapphire and Alexey Kuvtunov, first in the Healer’s Way series. Five stars, finished February 29, 2024.
Funny and not the direction I expected
I can’t imagine my brother offing me, and the lack of potential revenge was enough to make me pout. Maybe we’ll get more tidbits that fix that. I truly loved this book. Even with dark topics it kept me smiling and laughing. I do worry about the constant references to healers being uber rich but that’s a fact of life. I like that he doesn’t turn people away just because they lack money though. He is extremely passive aggressive in his malady spree, but it is definitely a karmatic joke. Read with Kindle Unlimited, but the next books in the series are not on KU.
The Healer’s Way (Book 1): A Portal Progression Fantasy Series (The Healer’s Way) https://a.co/d/4A033hf

I am still having the glitchy GoodReads issues, but I’m starting to think it might be related to Amazon’s new “my books” page. Either way, I hope that gets fixed.

Books read in January 2024

GoodReads is beginning to make me crazy. I keep finding reviews from previous months listed, and finding others that haven’t synced. I tried Story Graph, and I like it, but it doesn’t sync with anything and that means I have to remember to post myself. I tend to move on to the next book lol and I forgot to post reviews except that Amazon prompts me to review it whenever I finished a book. Still, GoodReads is currently crap. So! It’s a new year and there are delicious books to devour—I mean read. Here’s last month’s consumption:

The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 2 by Noret Flood aka puddles4263, second in the LoRG series. Five stars, finished January 1, 2024.
I like the brutally.
In other books, characters needlessly torture themselves mentally over morals. I’m a bitter 35 year old, and lI’m still learning that morals are in the eye of the beholder as well as unimportant when your mind can only focus on your own survival. It’s a relief to see this be less of a foundational stumbling block. Randidly is forced into a living PTSD state, which has some consequences, but he acknowledges that and moves on. The lady spear helper, Helen think, is funny. I’m curious what the Yeti will do or think when it learns it has been completely wrong. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 2: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/9ECHg1B

The Beta Dungeon by Shane Purdy, fifth in the Rise of the Winter Wolf series. Five stars, finished January 3, 2024.
Not sure that’s neutrality.
Wolf is still laid back, and his daughter is hilarious. As a mom to a teen, I completely understand the whiplash. I didn’t expect the further development, and I really dislike the enemies power plays. Fenrir is an enigma. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Beta Dungeon: A Livestreamed Dungeon Crawl LitRPG (The Rise of the Winter Wolf Book 5) https://a.co/d/9Xsr0WQ

The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 3 by Noret Flood, third in the RG series. Five stars, finished January 14, 2024.
Simultaneously more relaxing and more stressful Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2024 The adventure Shal starts Randidly on is much bigger than expected. I don’t understand the motivation of the previous and possibly current ally at the end. Why D? Helen is the best tsundere vibes. The journey of the only once introduced “male spear” whatever (holder?) was kind of a hilarious mess. I’m disappointed that merchants can be too greedy. The ending honestly flummoxed me. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 3: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/gge0TNJ

The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 4 by Noret Flood, fourth in the RG series. Four stars, finished January 18, 2024.
Incoherent ranting (me)
Because of some major events near the end, I really wanted to hate this book. Alas, this is still a captivating work of art. I’m going to read something else to cure my indignation. I absolutely love when a story affects me this extremely. I’m happy to see that Randidly is having an easier time dealing with, or ignoring, attention. I’m a bit disgusted with quite a few characters in this, and I look forward to them either redeeming their behavior or crashing and burning in his wake. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 4: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/1zJLWWh

The Primal Hunter 8 by Zogarth, eighth in the PH series. Five stars, finished January 21, 2024.
Swat the fly.
Jake has to do some housekeeping. It’s funny, but all the machinations are indeed as dumb as he finds them. I loved seeing his responses. I’m glad Meira is opening up, and the naming of his new buddies is still hilarious. The number of sycophants is frustrating, but I’m glad at least one learns how to interact with him better. The Sword Saint is harsh, and the situations with Jacob and Casper are sad. I understand Casper, but Jacob kind of made me angry. I need to read more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Primal Hunter 8: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/fwLln1Q

Tree of Aeons 4 by spaizzzer, fourth in the ToA series. Five stars, finished January 28, 2024.
Fascinating
I love how this series keeps me hooked. There are always so many ways that Aeon is pursuing goals, and it’s technical, entertaining, and fun. I like that his court is changing some. I was glad at the somewhat positive meetings, but there are some large bombshells. The cometworld was informative, as well as raised more questions. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Tree of Aeons 4: An Isekai LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/gdinpno

Separation by Seth Ring, seventh in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished January 30, 2024.
Not a restful farmer
John and Ellie are growing, and their journeys are going a lot further than they imagined. I agree with Ellie that it’s nice to see John creating happiness for himself. I didn’t expect the side adventure, and the revenge/justice is tame. The ending scene was a surprise. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Separation: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Battle Mage Farmer Book 7) https://a.co/d/gkrDvgJ

I’m still frustrated with GoodReads, but I think I have this month sorted out. I will just need to make time to ensure my reviews are synced everywhere. Happy Reading!

Books read in December 2023

I know, this is a miracle. I finally caught up! Lol

The Jade Scripture by David North, first in the River of Fate series. Five stars, finished December 4, 2023.
The blurb didn’t appeal to me, but I picked this up because I love the author’s other work. The beginning was both bizarre and captivating. The way Verse is connected to his previous lives was astonishing and, to me, original. I’m not a fan of the ghost, but he did help some. Teris just made me sad. The ending felt like both an ending and a beginning, because a balance formed. I’m curious on what will happen next. Read with Kindle Unlimited. Review did not sync from Amazon.
River of Fate: The Jade Scripture https://a.co/d/cV7UTSc

The Flame of the North by Alexey Osadchuk, fourth in the Last Life series. Five stars, finished December 9, 2023.
Never goes where I expect.
I really love that this series keeps surprising me. I think I have an idea of how the story will progress and then I’m surprised. I do wonder why Max hasn’t considered that if he could have been born in this world, and that he sees parallels, why would a specific other person not be a possible reincarnation. I love how sneakily he’s building up his power both magically and socially. Who will be the next person to learn that he isn’t to be trifled with? Another review that did not sync from Amazon.
The Flame of the North (Last Life Book #4): A Progression Fantasy Series https://a.co/d/dJD1ode

He Who Fights with Monsters 10 by Shirtaloon, tenth in the HWFWM series. Five stars, finished December 12, 2023.
Growing pains.
Those who have power hate to be unimportant. Rick’s jokes about women are both face palm and laugh. It is so easy to bring my thinking alongside Jason’s. He does better growing up than I do though. Boris surprised me. Read with Kindle Unlimited. Amazon failed to sync.
He Who Fights with Monsters 10: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/5wUx2H5

Astrology: Understanding the Birth Chart by Kevin Burk. Nonfiction. “Finished” December 2023, but I will be rereading and referencing this.
I read this as a textbook for an Astrology class. The information in this book was easier to understand, and helped break down some concepts into easier chunks of information. I do recommend this, as well as Theresa Reed’s Astrology for Real Life. I will continue to read this multiple times and use it as a reference for my current studies.
Astrology: Understanding the Birth Chart https://a.co/d/3E7Oo14

Accelerated Wicca by Belladonna Laveau, first in the ABC’s of Witchcraft Book, nonfiction. “Finished” December 2023, but I’ll be rereading a referencing. Five stars.
Accelerated Wicca (ABC’s of Witchcraft Book 1) https://a.co/d/dVl1rt4

Between the Worlds by Belladonna Laveau, second in the ABC’s of Witchcraft Book 2. “Finished” December 2023, another book I’ll be rereading and referencing. Five stars.
Between the Worlds (ABC’s of Witchcraft Book 2) https://a.co/d/cyAjuGV

The Path of Ascension 5 by C. Mantis, fifth in the PoA series. Five stars, finished December 19, 2023.
Undercover.
I cannot even comprehend trying to act like someone I’m not. I understand why Matt and Liz needed to, but it was still mind boggling to read. There are time skips, but they flow with the story. The competition was funny. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Path of Ascension 5: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/7N8Gxzq

Azarinth Healer: Book 3 by Rhaegar, third in the AH series. Five stars, finished December 24, 2023.
Fun, funny, and harsh.
I hated learning of a loss. I love how others inspire Ilea to grow. I admire the fact that she doesn’t want to go on rampages. There is at least one part where Ilea treats leveling like a drug, reminding me of the leveling high from another series. I will be disappointed if this series goes in that direction. I love that Ilea accepts all beings, regardless of their origins. I need more lol. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Azarinth Healer Book Three: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/gssNv10

The Heavenly Serpent by Alvin Atwater, fifth in the Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker series. Five stars, finished December 25, 2023.
But the other rewards!
Ending the book while opening chests is just mean, but hilarious. I like how Nate is becoming more comfortable with the inevitable level of exposure based on his power. The mom and pop issue is sad, and I wonder if he will butt his head in. With the defeat of some enemies comes new ones. Hopefully he and Milia can keep any sycophants at bay. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Heavenly Serpent: Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker 5 https://a.co/d/525u2sx

The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound by Noret Flood/ puddles4263, first in the LoRG series. I like this abbreviation. Five stars, finished December 29, 2023.
I needed a great book.
I’ve read one middling books and series recently, and many of the great series I follow don’t have more books. I picked this one up because of the author. I love the desperation characters can have to be more, especially if they need solitude and enjoy crafting. The awkward fumbling when around people is relatable for me. The fact that even with this they can rise up into overpowered characters is freeing. I’m amused and worried at the type of people who are being attracted to Randidly, specifically the ones he is worried about. The ex is an idiot though. I’m absolutely excited to be able to binge this series for a while, and I can see it becoming a series I add publication dates to my calendar. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/0laBEPy

I succeeded in getting all these reviews on here. Hopefully, this will increase these books, series, and authors exposure so they can have more readers. Why do I want them to have more readers? Because it keeps the authors, and publishers when that partnership exists, motivated to keep publishing. I did not meet my reading goal, but I still read 159 according to GoodReads. Happy Reading!

Books read in November 2023

Just keep swimming!

Defiance of the Fall 11 by J.F. Brink/TheFirstDefier, eleventh in the DotF series. Five stars, finished November 4, 2023.
Rumors
It’s hilarious how bad Zac’s reputation is because of misunderstandings and some of his citizens. I like how Zac doesn’t have to solve every little problem on Earth, and it’s cool seeing people get stronger from either inspiration or jealousy. The multitude of side character stories was frustrating, but they build the current events. I am hoping to read the next book soon, but it will be worth a wait. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Defiance of the Fall 11 https://a.co/d/hiG1JnH

Voidborne by KrazeKode, first in the Rise of the Devourer series. Five stars, finished November 11, 2023.
Cute, moral, and a hopeful fatalism
Reading this book brought me back to when I read the first He Who Fights With Monsters book. The initial idealism or moral struggles had a parallel beginning. For his age, Noah acts pretty immature, and yet it works. I am concerned how free he is with his blood, and as soon as he shared that I knew it was not going to end well. There’s a lot of things happening beyond Noah’s current comprehension, and I like that Noah has so far proven the annoying helper in his I guess soul space wrong. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Rise of the Devourer: Voidborne: (A LitRPG Adventure) https://a.co/d/9RL95y9

System Reborn Vol 5, previously System Sovereign, by Kaz Hunter, fifth in the Apocalypse Reincarnation series. Three stars, finished November 12, 2023.
Disjointed?
Sloan seems even more disconnected to the people around him. He focuses on the few he wants, but still pursues his promise to fix the world. The intrusion of other pantheons was unexpected, but I feel like I should have expected it. The meetings with Sara confused me. Is this going to be a romantic relationship or friendship or something I’m unable to see currently? A good read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
System Reborn Vol 5: A LitRPG Adventure (Apocalypse Reincarnation) https://a.co/d/beSAoXM

Mages of Buldoun by Daniel Schinhofen, fifth in the Aether’s Revival series. Five stars, finished November 16, 2023.
More polyam than harem
I like that with each added person the love is shared as a group, not hoarded as a harem. Makes my polyamorous heart sing. I’m also enjoying how Greg is rising to each new challenge and surpassing expectations. It’s probably not relevant, but learning more about how the different magically capable people are found has me questioning: did Aether originally ignite this power potential in others? Are there magic capable people who naturally find their power? Just an offhand thought I had. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Mages of Buldoun (Aether’s Revival Book 5) https://a.co/d/g9Ss6IR

Magi Guard by Daniel Schinhofen, sixth in the Aether’s Revival series. Four stars, finished November 17, 2023.
Training montages
I really enjoy how passionately the Aether’s Guard Magi learn, and seeing it spread to the people around them is sweet. The whole training montage was cute, and the devotion the soldiers show seems unrealistically idealistic, but this is a book. I also don’t know anything about real life military soldiers, so there is that too. The repeated exposure of the mistreated eurtik is very telling. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Magi Guard (Aether’s Revival Book 6) https://a.co/d/4mywKdq

Reunion by J.D. Olson, second in the Electrified series. Four stars, finished November 17, 2023.
Fun read
It’s interesting to see the new elementals have species’ drawbacks like pride and disconnect. Ione is as adorable as ever, and I loved reading her perspectives. This book raised questions about the twins’ mother. I’m sure that will play into the storyline eventually. And of course, the powerful individuals at the top are plotting. Reading this book had me clapping in excitement many times. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Reunion: A LitRPG Apocalypse Adventure (Electrified Book 2) https://a.co/d/1fsaSj8

Moral Stand by Daniel Schinhofen, seventh in the Aether’s Revival series. Five stars, finished November 23, 2023.
Foresight is astonishing
Gregory goes through a lot in this posting, and firms his stance. His rigidity towards following laws does worry me that he might put himself in a corner before he prefers. His foresight and the habits he’s training will serve him well in that regard. I will say that it was a relief to not see more than the expected added into his harem, but the dream meetings are funny. I worry about Darkness, she seems so fragile. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Moral Stand (Aether’s Revival Book 7) https://a.co/d/fVqGeIq

I had a lot of responsibilities during November, and I didn’t read for fun as much as I would have preferred. Still, the books are always there, and I’m happy to be able to read them when time allows.

Books read in October 2023

I’m determined to get these book reviews posted lol. One book on here is in an extremely kink specific series: Mastery in the Sex Wizards series. I do recommend this series, but it is definitely a kink series, so understand that it has some taboos as well as healthy kink expression.

Tree of Aeons 3 by spaizzzer, third in the ToA series. Four and a half stars, finished October 4, 2023.
I absolutely loved this, and the way the story always speeds through time while remaining as a captivating storyline—I love it. Lausanne surprised and disappointed me. The churches are hilarious and hypocrites. If they didn’t want to contend with others rising in power, they shouldn’t isekai humans into extremely long lived creatures. The two previous heroes didn’t make an appearance, and no notifications. I’m not sure what to think or feel about that. I like the painter, but I hope she finds a peaceful mental health soon. Losses are always sad, and at least one character that has been a main feature passes. I really cannot express how much I enjoyed this book and love this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Expanse by Nicoli Gonnella, sixth in the Unbound series. Five stars, finished October 11, 2023.
Always making waves
I love that Felix can’t do anything without causing huge consequences (defining consequences as reactions to any action basically). I think it’s a theme that none of the deities or primordials can leave him alone. Still, I was a bit shocked at one’s actions. I like Michael, I don’t like Naos/Isla. It’s fun seeing the changes Felix is causing for everyone he meets. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Air Magic by Mari Silva, second in the Elemental Magic series, nonfiction, (Pagan, Neopagan, Witchcraft). Four stars, finished October 13, 2023.
Not just correspondences.
I enjoyed the history and mythology shared in this book. I plan to read it again, but I also have a love of Air elemental knowledge. I enjoyed this. Read with Kindle Unlimited. I do own this physically as well.

Undaunted by Samer Rabadi, third in the Eight series. Four stars, finished October 17, 2023.
More enmeshed in this new life.
Eight seems to have joined with his new world more, and he’s only bonding more strongly with his family and friends. He does experience quite a bit of culture shock. I dislike how Voorhei is being treated, and I’m disgusted with many organizations. I wish it had been included to see Aslishtei’s reaction to finding out where, when, and how she’d met Eight before. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Burning Lake by ThinkTwice, fourth in the Mark of the Crijik series. Five stars, finished October 20, 2023.
Wow this was intense!
It was nice to see Andross meeting and surpassing expectations. I didn’t expect the chaos, nor the boldness to use that name of all choices. I eagerly am anticipating the new reactions after the way the book ended. The way chaos and order are spoken about have me questioning the familiarity both have with Andross. I’m glad he has friends, and I really hope things can end well. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Path of Ascension 2 by C. Mantis, second in the PoA series. Five stars, finished October 21, 2023.
More exciting speed-growing
This was a fun read. I like Camilla, and I find it hilarious that a relative interfered exactly like Liz tried to run away from. There are some moral quandaries, but I believe that the situation they contributed to was just sped up with their actions, not just directly caused. The end of the book with Matt, Liz, and bunny obsessed Aster just running rifts is nice. The observers reactions and statements made me laugh. I am curious about the breathing down the neck that happened at an item evaluation. I’m really enjoying this series and I need more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Beyond the Wall by Selkie Myth, fourth in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Five stars, finished October 22, 2023.
The end is still annoying, but my favorite fmc is amazing.
I absolutely love how Elaine is growing. Being a Sentinel is forcing her to grow up emotionally and yet she also has quite a bit of wisdom since she has some knowledge of her past life. The losses of loved characters had me crying. The Guardians were beautifully terrifying.
I dislike what seems like a time-skip forward to follow Iona. She may have grown up, at least some, at this point, but swapping viewpoints is frustrating. The teasing hints about the characters the series originally follows infuriates me. Still, I’ve grown to expect the add on and to tolerate it. Perhaps I can learn to like Iona too since she too is a strong and driven individual with a Vow of her own. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Defiance of the Fall 9 by TheFirstDefier/ J.F. Brink, ninth in the DotF series. Five stars, finished October 23, 2023.
A fun read.
I absolutely enjoyed this book. There were minimal side character interruptions, and it was nice seeing Zac come to like and appreciate all of himself. The number of babysitters in this was hilarious. I also really don’t understand the child/rich brat behavior some of these kids have. They are mentally children despite their numerical age. I’m not sure if the System is an ally, but I can see that happening. I’m amused at powerful beings’ incredulity and almost despair if they cross Zac. Sometimes he’s not even the one dishing out reprimands. Iz is still weird, but she has gotten worse. I laughed at grandpa’s last reflection, given what he enabled. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Magi’s Path by Daniel Schinhofen, third in the Aether’s Revival series. Five stars, finished October 27, 2023.
Fun read and so much happens.
I do enjoy a chuckle with every new harem centric thought. It’s amusing. I have wondered for a while if Greg will talk to Lightshield about his identity, but no hints yet. like that even while constantly busy the characters are still enjoying themselves and their activities. I wonder what will happen next. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Awakening by AbyssRaven, first in the A Dragon Idol’s Reincarnation Tale series. Four stars, finished October 28, 2023.
Unexpected and intriguing.
Following a baby dragon with the mind of a human teenager was interesting. I did worry about the parallel minds, and partnering up with another baby animal kind of relieved that. Still, following toddlers who think like adults was funny. The side chapters with other characters were informative at times, but also didn’t feel integral into the series—and least where the class is concerned. We’ll see how that works out. I enjoyed this. The ending following the thoughts of mommy garm was sad, and since it was in the past it didn’t feel relevant since it’s at the end of the book instead of after those events as a chapter. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Mastery by Alethea Faust, second in the Sex Wizards series. Five stars, finished October 28, 2023.
Wholesome even with the content.
I think my favorite part of this series is the focus on healthy expressions of kink. I’ll be honest, I wish I could find a way to experience some of these, lol. The other parts of this book that I love are the respect held for partners, the caring and assistance in healing, and the focus on building up people’s self-confidence. There are parts that made my breath catch in fear, but the bad are dealt with safely, and the trust is maintained in unfamiliar situations. Highly enjoyed this. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Aether’s Apprentices by Daniel Schinhofen, fourth in the Aether’s Revival series. Five stars, finished October 30, 2023.
And the harem, I mean clan, expands.
The whole harem mindset in this series works pleasantly and only makes me smile or laugh. The only thing that frustrated me was the indecision with telling the elder Greg’s identity, especially knowing timeframe. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Procrastinating is both exhausting and fun lol.

Books read in September 2023

I’m in a grumpy meh headspace today.

Revolution by J.D. Olson, third in the Electrified series. Five stars, finished September 1, 2023.
Very exciting
The number of changes our group of characters experience surprised me on looking back after finishing this book. It is both sudden and seems longer, but everyone has grown a lot. I didn’t expect the elemental realms to pack that much of a punch, but they exponentially influence the girls. I am extremely curious about the rude system, as it gets kind of neutered with no explanation. The end of the book reads like it could be the end of the series, but I hope not. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Revolution: A LitRPG Apocalypse Adventure (Electrified Book 3) https://a.co/d/j9lzzlb

Wolf in the Void by Tom Elliot, fifth in the Grand Game series. Four stars, finished September 3, 2023.
Fun and endless adventure
I enjoyed another journey through a dungeon. There are references to the void and its relationship with the previous Primes, which made me suspect that Michael will surpass what has been before. I do wish that he could have his pack together.I am disappointed that the book ended where it did. It ends on a positive, but without finishing the conversation between Michael, Draven, and Adriel. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Clover City by Jay Boyce, second in the Rise of the Mystic Mage series. Five stars, finished September 4, 2023.
Oh shiny
I loved the references to the Touch of Power series. Lord Benji of course gets cuter. The expanding friends group is nice, especially with how hard it is for Ash to be around others for long. The jaybirds are cute and I love their temperament. This is an uplifting series, or it makes me happy when I read it. I look forward to more in this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Clover City: Rise of the Mystic Mage book 2 https://a.co/d/7KmsrP2

The Shadow of Glory by D.C. Haenlien, KP Comics Studios, and Chris Ford; third in the Adelheid series. clarification, I read an ebook without any comic elements. Three stars, finished September 5, 2023.
Strong, but not as deep as previous.
There are a lot of things that it felt were barely touched, talked about, or explored. As to the chat, I honestly felt “that’s it?”. I really want to keep liking the inner circle, but with two people being idiots I’m not really a fan. The Gulf between Adelaide and everyone else is becoming enormous. The implications of gross people attracted to children, and the focus on our MC were disturbing. Nothing happens, and it even encourages downfalls but I feel a content disclaimer might be nice. With alk of that, I still really enjoyed the book. I’m curious about grandpa and what influenced his actions, and the super witch, while a short encounter, was fun. I enjoyed the psychological revenge, but the afterward was sad. Maybe I just like poor people better, making their punishment lack any appeal. I am looking forward to the next book, and I hope the author writes for a long time. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Shadow of Glory: A Reincarnation Progression Fantasy (Adelheid Book 3) https://a.co/d/bb8sYXG

Apocalypse Rising by D.B. King and Nick Law, first in the World End series. Four stars, finished September 7, 2023.
Pretty exciting but also emotional
The small tidbits of backstory are captivity and inspire an empathy to Bain in me. I also hope to discover more. The end of the book shares each characters’ stats at the time the book ends, and I think a small summary of each characters’ backstory would be interesting there. I’m not sure what to think about the agents. I love Pasha. Now we just need a catlike being. This book was exciting because there was always another hurdle coming, even if resting. The premise for humanity breaks my heart. I can imagine prisoners excelling, but I can’t relate to the complete eradication of any “weak” class. This adds a unique twist to this bookverse, and one I hadn’t seen in LitRPG/GameLit series so far. I’m interested to see what happens next. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Apocalypse Rising: A LitRPG Adventure (World End Book 1) https://a.co/d/eHoPkea

System Fall by Kaz Hunter, first in the Apocalypse Revisited series. Four stars, finished September 10, 2023.
Starts at the end before it begins.
I actually started this book thinking it was in another series, but it was just as engaging. It was a bit confusing when it started at the end of a journey, but then it reset. I like the appeal of actions having consequences. I am disappointed in the last battle. That was a cowardly way to leave a fight, and I hope he destroys them at their next meeting. I’m curious how this fancy ability will lead the journey now. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

To Flail Against Infinity by J.P. Valentine, first in the Stargazer’s War series. Five stars, finished September 14, 2023.
Absolutely epic
I can only hope to try to explain how astounding I found this book. The outer space aspect was not very interesting when I read the blurb, but the way it’s written is beautiful. The fear and respect different types of people have for it, and the miracle Cal is—it was enthralling. The few parts where Cal is obviously telling his story from the future almost always were heartbreaking. Martha’s goal makes me sad, and I hope she’s shown that she’s wrong. The piety the elder displayed concerns me, because the vibrant qi and the infinity qi seem to always counteract each other. The last (actual) chapter was very worrying, because that type of enemy is a horror untold. The book did have two more chapter headings that weren’t chapters or were just blank and a list of links every book in this and related genres are kind enough to include. I really REALLY want more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Path of Ascension 4 by C. Mantis, fourth in the PoA series. Five stars, finished September 24, 2023.
Not quite sedate
This book moved both slowly and quickly. Time passes quickly, but studies and lessons are learned and the path to them is detailed. I’m not sure how to think about Matthew and Melinda’s team. They are fundamentally different than Matt, Liz, and Aster. I like how many different and extremely varied Luna’s lessons seem. The inevitable conflict is getting closer, and I personally think Matt will have a big impact on it. I love how determined he is to build up the less advantaged, and to become a force of change. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Primal Hunter 7 by Zogarth, seventh in the PH series. Five stars, finished September 26, 2023.
What’s better than one? Two.
I really love how this story and series flows. Jake sees something he needs to improve? Proceeds to hyperfocus until he meets a minimum goal. At this point, his Deity Bestie just seems to shake his head at Jake’s progression speed. I really like sim, and that whole tangle seems to fit them both perfectly. I’m not surprised in the least that some idiot humans are going to probably cause massive trouble. Jacob’s moment of self-doubt and warning to a friend reassure me that an important friendship might not be lost. The torture for Jake at the end of the book is absolutely hilarious. The ending snuck up on me, as it always does in a great read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Aether’s Guard by Daniel Schinhofen, second in the Aether’s Revival series. Five stars, finished September 29, 2023.
Some obvious hints, extreme growth, and a cutesy romance
The relations in the first book were funny and ridiculous, and the cutesy romance in this one was both a big difference and had the same frivolous and funny energy. I feel like hints about Darkness and her identity were very obviously mentioned, but our MC can be hilariously dense so that fits. The hints regarding Jenn were also obvious. I’m amused that no one has caught on that they are following not just two paths but all three, and successfully. I have high hopes for this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

I hope you’re able to find at least on new book or series to explore. Happy reading!

Books read in August 2023

Yeah this is late lol. I still want to share it.

Defiance of the Fall 10 by J.F. Brink/ TheFirstDefier, tenth in the DotF series. I honestly hate that this genre rarely names individual books. Five stars, finished August 9, 2023.
Minimal side interruptions
I’m quite happy that this book almost exclusively follows Zac. I didn’t expect the two mentioned players, but I’m seeing a pattern. Very enjoyable progression, and the visit home was a bit of a growing up experience to me. Zac and many of those around him are sprinting forward. The world, and system-verse, around them are either being pulled along, or left behind. The ending had me squeeing. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Defiance of the Fall 10: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/1AQzZWV

The New World by Monsoon117, first in the series of the same name. Five stars, finished August 12, 2023.
Bloodthirsty and personal worth
The book started pretty normal with a friendly activity between friends. It got hard fast, and became an epic struggle of determination and possibility. The initial encounter with other humans surprised me. Honestly, I feel like this held multiple books since so much happened. I love how Daniel doesn’t judge or make assumptions regarding the various beings around him. The encounter between humans he knew before the system shocked and hurt me. I like the new friends, and Daniel’s drive to grow and be more is inspirational. I think I’ve discovered another favorite series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The New World: A LitRPG Apocalypse Adventure https://a.co/d/0tdBKc9

They Who Watch Over the Night by Konstantin Zaitsev, third in the Legend of Raven series. Four stars, finished August 16, 2023.
Training montage
This book reads as an extensive (and still interesting) training montage. He keeps being pushed and pulled in so many directions. Everyone seems to want or need something from him. The new partnership with Mei Li shows a bit of how these are teenagers, and Yang isn’t blind to attraction. That said, I can’t say whether they will end up as familial or if a romance will happen. It’s an interesting quandary. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Trials of Cydaria by SunriseCV, fourth in the System Universe series. Five stars, finished August 17, 2023.
Not the strongest… Yet
It’s fun seeing Derek meet and team up with adventurers who are stronger than he is. His new family has settled in, and he gets to be more of an adventurer. The Great System seems really odd. Silvi is now more of a chef than a murderbunny, but her quirks and terminology are still funny. I wish she had accompanied Derek on his adventure though. Blitz is hilarious, and I can’t wait to see how that goes in court. I hope Derek can make his adventure faster, because the Kingdom’s situation has me worried. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Echoes of War by David North, sixth in the Guardian of Aster Fall series. Five stars, finished August 21, 2023.
I love an OP beat down of idiots
Sam seems a lot more adult in this book, which was kind of apparent in the previous. He doesn’t get annoyed if some random interrupts his crafting for instance. He finally makes his way back home, but not before we see embers of a potential future romance. The Tree and other big moves he made regarding those destructive towards the World Core and seal were thrilling. I like that he’s progressed enough to be above the petty crap his distant relatives and others who feel they are victims of an unjust rule. His solution was unexpected, but well thought out and reasonable. I’m curious who will try to throw a wrench in that. Thoroughly enjoyed this read, especially the epic battle towards the end. I’m curious if the other universe or whatever is related in their boogeymen given the descriptions of the devour path and the Vos’Rekens. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Echoes of War (Guardian of Aster Fall Book 6) https://a.co/d/7LaTpc0

Blood Ties by Alexey Osadchuk, third in the Last Life series. Five stars, finished August 23, 2023.
A bit of high society nonsense
I have thought a few times, as an adult, that I’m glad I wasn’t born into specific tiers. I just don’t have any patience, and I’m too hot headed. Max is definitely different. He thrives in scheming, which is accurate in how a fox related individual might be thought of. I expected him to interact more with Emile, there are so many uppity women who had me wanting to smack them, and some very interesting discoveries are made at home. Max doesn’t seem to be able to put down roots, because he’s always beholden to go where his “betters” dictate. I really want a super powerful sneaky and vicious outcome to this series, but I’ll love it no matter where the story goes. Blood Ties (Last Life Book #3): A Progression Fantasy Series https://a.co/d/0gcOo8j

The Pastel Magic Book of Tarot Spreads by Maria Morales. A book with various Tarot spreads. Five stars, read over probably a year, finished August 23, 2023.
Thought provoking spreads
I loved the spreads in this. Even the spreads I was unsure of still had a depth that had a message I needed to hear. These weren’t complicated either, which made these great for my readings. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Preservation by Seth Ring, sixth in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Four stars, finished August 25, 2023.
I’m actually shocked
I liked that even in the midst of searching for solutions to destruction Ellie and John made time for themselves. Not sure if it will matter to others, but this doesn’t even have a fade to black aspect to the romance. It’s very innocent in this department. I didn’t expect anything close to the ending, and I’m exhilarated to even consider what can happen next. I enjoyed the foreshadowing, and I’m curious what the Seer sees and how her powers might be similar to Ellie’s. Gorra’s reaction to John’s real strength is hilarious. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

I didn’t read as much as usual this month, because I did not have as much time I was able to dedicate to reading for fun. I will most likely be cramming reading for fun into the limited times I will have free time.

Books read in July 2023

Oops! The new year seemed to fast forward time. My perception of time is shortening.

Dungeon Mauling by Eric Ugland, third in the Good Guys series. Four stars, finished July 1.
Amusing
This was an interesting read. I don’t feel like it had as much to offer as previous books, but Montana had some growth. I am now very interested in how magic works in this world, and what makes Montana different. He seems to be collecting a lot of people (or beings) that raised my eyebrow. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn, sixth in the Bridgertons series. Five stars, finished July 6, 2023.
I was worried with mentions in previous books that Frannie’s story wouldn’t be told. Thankfully, it has been. The beginning is heartbreaking, for all involved. Guilt can be a terrible weight, and I’m glad they worked past it. I cried a lot while reading this, and some were happy tears. Read with the Libby app.
When He Was Wicked: Bridgerton (Bridgertons Book 6) https://a.co/d/aNACY37
When He Was Wicked: the Second Epilogue, five stars.
Content disclaimer: infertility
I am happy these second epilogues are included in the audiobooks I’m listening to. I had my two relatively easily, but we weren’t able to have more. I wanted more, and that broke my heart some. I can’t imagine feeling like I’d never have any children. I’m grateful that Frannie does have children by the end of this. I did wonder if she might adopt, but I also don’t know if that was something that was done very often in the time period this series is in.

Tree of Aeons 2 by spaizzzer, second in the Tree of Aeons series. Four stars, finished July 8, 2023.
Hero system is buggy
Aeon is still as fascinating as before, and he’s growing up. I know he plans to meet other spirits, but I personally think he’s special. He kind of breaks the system similar to how the heroes do. I’m disappointed in Alexis. At the same time, if Aeon just told Meela and her the truth, or at least Meela, then I think his experiences after an incident might have gone better. The heroes are all meh. The fact that Harris discovers the need for tea only reinforced my opinion that they’re glorified puppets. At least Aeon/TreeTree/Matt skipped that. Huge cliffhanger, but I can see this becoming a huge burst of strength in the next book. I really need to read the next book. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Eighth Harmony by A.F. Kay, eighth in the Divine Apostasy series. Four stars, finished July 14, 2023
More happened than I thought possible.
I definitely recommend reading Hamma’s book first. She made me not hate her at least. I love how intertwined Ruwan and Sift’s journeys are. Even with the violence and drama, this book and series hold a wholesome innocence to me. I am very curious what specific Deities will do next. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Primal Hunter 6 by Zogarth, sixth in the Primal Hunter series. Five stars, finished July 14, 2023.
Spoiler warning.
I really enjoy how Jake views everything as a challenge of some sort. He takes moments to relax, but also notes things to look at later. The first part of the book has him seeing his family, and a couple bully the little brother moments when little brother tries to starts stuff with mom and dad. It was funny. Jake also does nothing by halves, and kind of almost blunders in an exciting transmute but also exterminate everything session. I do think that finding beings more powerful than himself is a positive for him. With his Bloodline and personality that’s a challenge to improve himself. The next part of the book showing a short montage of improving some skills was interesting. I also enjoyed the whole school scenario. As for slavery vs hunting, personally those are monumentally different topics. Hunting allows for anyone to win, and it’s all about who is more. More can be anything—determination, skilled, lucky, devious—and that’s pretty normal in a LitRPG series. Slavery was going to come up anyway based on previous books, and I like Villy’s explanations both to Jake and Duskleaf. Directing chaos in a preferred and potentially positive direction adds depth. I like how Jake handles the situation. I am sad the book ended, and I will be eagerly anticipating the next books. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Implode by Dakota Krout, eighth in the Conpletionist Chronicles series. Three stars, finished July 14, 2023.
I wish I enjoyed this book as much as previous books in the series, but it just seemed a bit of a stumbling mess. I really don’t understand Herr Trigger’s obsession, I both extremely hate and feel confusion for one character, and I’m curious and bewildered by the new elf royals proclamation about a seemingly, in my opinion, side character. A goal is accomplished, but is it really with so few people? I’m hoping Joe goes back to being a sneaky OP operative for Occultatum like it seemed he was at first. Also, is it really completionist? There are so many loose ends. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Implode: An Epic Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (The Completionist Chronicles Book 8) https://a.co/d/clklrXv

Protagonist by S.I. Waxman, first in the Whims of the Gods series. Five stars, finished July 14, 2023.
The beginning is cute, in that Tess bargained for a dog she cared about. I agree with Dex that bargaining in her situation was funny. I’m curious if readers will learn more about Dex, since apparently Deities can actually interact with mortals. I feel bad that a friend/potential partner got pulled into the middle of a mess. Many characters are almost as interesting as Tess. I did really enjoy how she thought and moved forward. The nap dress is enough to make me a bit jealous. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Forbidden Fruit by Sam Hall, first in the Wolfverse Dark Side series. Four stars, finished July 14, 2023.
Not as dark as I expected.
I love that the author gives a content disclaimer. The book did have some interactions that might concern others. It’s all understandable though, at least in my opinion. All of these teens were wearing trauma as chain mail and they could clash extremely. I didn’t expect the time skip, nor the doozies when reconnecting is almost thrust at everyone. I love the exploration of mental health. The ending was beautiful. I did cry when reading many parts of this book, which I view as proof of an engaging story. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Forbidden Fruit (The Wolfverse Dark Side Book 1) https://a.co/d/7EcuXaz

Worldwalker by Jamie Dalton, first in the Banneret series. Three stars, finished July 14, 2023.
The characters are very cute. It almost has a vibe like classic fantasy series I’ve read before. I both like and dislike that Adalyn is discovering her power has a new ability pretty consistently. The potential romance is very young and innocent. Cute story, not sure if I’ll read more in the series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Isekai Magus by Han Yang, first in the Fantasy World of Nordan series. Four stars, finished July 17.
Long in a good way, meandering adventures, unpredictable a bit.
I absolutely love when a LitRPG/GameLit series is obscenely long. I feel like I actually got to immerse myself and enjoy reading. I love how Damien views fighting and winning. It’s hilarious how his actions boggle his opponents. The story is well written, and I didn’t notice typos or errors, which is impressive in my opinion. I enjoy the large family he’s creating, and I can only imagine how he could grow in his own power and those of his friends and minions. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Crafter by Stuart Grosse, second in the OP Lich is a Returnee series. Four stars, finished July 17, 2023.
Crafting
This book focused more on Akagawa’s crafting prowess. There’s still some combat, and it’s OP brutal—loved it. I enjoyed the specific methods that are used for crafting. The mysterious four are of course pontificating to each other at the end. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Shadows by Stuart Grosse, third in the OP Lich is a Returnee series. Three stars, finished July 18, 2023.
<strong>More crafting, some idiots, some Yakuza</ strong>
Akagawa’s crafting is so detailed in this series. It makes it sound believable, and it’s fascinating. love the various disparities too. One customer is actual royalty and another is a Yakuza gang. I am conflicted about the immortality in this. I can’t say l’d want either option. The absence of physical desire would be unwelcome for me as well. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Reborn by D.I. Freed, first in the Jade Phoenix saga. Five stars, finished July 20, 2023.
Fascinating and sad
The parts with secret or known people plotting against a child were confusing at times, but did play well into the story. I am not sure that I’m happy or okay with Yu’s acceptance of past treatment. If a person can ignore something that horrid, or actually be an abuser then I’d personally (as the child) have blown them all off. Made me like Grandma more than the other characters. I’m curious about the powerful beasts, and it’s amusing that Yu keeps essentially befriending them. Enjoyable, and I’m not sure what to think of the cousins. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Revealed by D.I. Freed, second in the Jade Phoenix saga. Five stars, finished July 23, 2023.
More independence
I like that Yu’s new master mostly lets her grow on her own. He does have expectations, and gives her rules to follow. Still, her growth is her effort and choice. I am disappointed we didn’t see Yu explore the disappearing blood. Still dislike the powerful woman, and the journal entries had no explanation. I kind of decided to guess they were about her. I dislike the idea of old artefacts stealing and harming. Hoping a trick is found for that. Collecting all would make me grin too. Great read, even the classes and ability explanations were fun to read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Education by Stuart Grosse, fourth in the OP Lich is a Returnee series. Four stars, finished July 23, 2023.
Practical explanations
This book mostly has an overview of magic in the other world. I did enjoy her reactions to potential students. The series is enjoyable, but it does come across as a patient elder directing those around her in positive, negative, and neutral ways. This actually makes the series more interesting, because she is already beyond the awkward fumbling stage. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Five Rings of Cultivation by Konstantin Zaitsev, first in the Legend of Raven series. Three stars, finished July 24, 2023.
Bizarre but good
I’ll admit I know nothing of professional or illegal fighting competitions. Starting in that setting gave some information, but had some confusing elements. The main character then chooses to be reborn as a clan grandson since the actual grandson died. I am extremely confused about his age. I thought it started with him being twelve, but then later he’s 17. There are manipulating deities, clans, and Yang is meshing more fully with memories from the previous Yang. The book was interesting, but it seems extremely convoluted. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Apprentices by Stuart Grosse, fifth in the OP Lich is a Returnee series. Four stars, finished July 24, 2023.
Magic students
In this book there were the expected two students, and two unexpected as well. It was interesting to read how the different paths train parallel to one another. Nothing monumental happens, and the annoying four in the epilogue didn’t make me mad this time. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Aether’s Blessing by Daniel Schinhofen, first in the Aether’s Revival series. Four stars, finished July 26, 2023.
He gets around
It’s amusing that he keeps falling into bed with people. Sure, he gets some self-control, but at least the first time he was a cad. I love the unknown aspect of this. Gin makes a comment toward the nd that had me pausing, because it was slightly different than any said before. The last sentence had goose bumps taking over my skin. I can only imagine he’s about to turn this society upside down. I like Yuki, and I hope she becomes more than a tag a long. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Lion Academy by Konstantin Zaitsev, second in the Legend of Raven series. Finished July 27, 2023.
Between a three and a four star.
So, I would say parts of this were a four and had my adrenaline rushing, but others felt illogical (in the context of this series) and had me putting the book down to do anything but read… That’s a big deal for me. I’m curious about Mei li and what makes her so captivating to Yang. Yang is still being led like a bull by the nose by so very many different beings, and I’m starting to question if any are really on his side. Probably his backseat passenger is, but any people seem to be mercurial at best. There’s good individual development, but anything outside the scope of this Academy seems to be almost completely shut out. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Mark of the Crijik by ThinkTwice, first in the Mark of the Crijik series. Five stars, finished July 29, 2023.
I loved this.
It’s rare that I’ll read a book and not find any minor annoyances. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this book. I love the way Andross grows, and the difficulties are understandable. The situation he and William experienced is sad, and having an adult-child’s viewpoint added complexity to it. I’m curious about so much in this bookverse. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Koshima Academy by ThinkTwice, second in the Mark of the Crijik series. Five stars, finished July 30, 2023.
Where to begin
Rapid aging, an important feature mostly ignored, new friends, scary experiences. Personally, Andross is starting to act more like his body’s equivalent age. I say it that way because his growth is still really shocking. The regent or whatever his dad made especially for him is basically a footnote. The chapter names seemed to rarely talk about the actual story, but some referenced future and past chapters a bit. They’re more like comments that made me laugh or shake my head. It’s sad the way Andross and his two special friends have to approach friendships carefully. We learned more, but also hardly anything, about the family issue/secret. I’m really loving this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Gesti Sky by ThinkTwice, third in the Mark of the Crijik series. Five stars, finished July 31, 2023.
Enjoyable and surprising
Magical amusement park? I’m jealous. The drama resulting from last book’s monster are kind of heartbreaking. I did NOT expect the doozy about the painting. I can’t say I’d pick the same class Andross did, but it was absolutely perfect for him. I expected at least two characters to be villains, but once we read the whole book things are more complicated. The ramifications of so many actions from so many people are staggering. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

I recently discovered that GoodReads might have a shareable link to a year’s reading timeline. I love this, and it would save me time lol. That said, I’ll still probably keep to monthly reading posts to raise visibility of the books I read. I do plan to finish out last year this month, especially since it’s January of a new year. Happy reading!

Books read in June 2023

Ascendant Insanity by KamikazePotato, fourth in the An Outcast in Another World series. Four stars, finished June 1st, 2023.
Two books in one
I am extremely pleased to have Jason’s experiences shown as an after book short story. Rob and Jason are hilarious and perfect for each other.
Jason is becoming quite adept at pissing off leaders, and gods. Leveling High is still concerning, and I wonder what makes it different—after the revelation about Diplomacy. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Savannah by SunriseCV, third in the System Universe series. Five stars, finished June 3rd, 2023. A favorite series.
More about Derek
In previous books, Derek had a lot of interaction with the people in his life now. In this, he actually spends a significant amount of time alone—even from Silvi. This is a much more mentally healthier than the other significant time he experienced. Some conflicts come to a head, some new bad guys are introduced, and Derek lectures royalty. I was so enthralled with the story that I was shocked to turn the page and see “epilogue.” Read this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn, fifth in the Bridgertons series. Three stars, finished June 3rd, 2023.
Book needs a content disclaimer: suicide, depression, abuse.
I did enjoy reading this, and I’m happy with Eloise’s new family. However, the modern woman in me experienced a ton of frustration. Still, this was a happy book, even with the heartbreaking beginning. As a person with depression, I did feel annoyed at how neurodivergent mental health was spoken about. As a person who was abused as a child, Phillip is relatable in his fears and in his anger. It doesn’t help that this is a time period before PTSD treatment. Read the ebook on the Libby app. Included the Epilogue.

All the Skills by Honour Rae, first in the All the Skills series. Five stars, finished June 3rd, 2023. A very enjoyable read.
Surprisingly enjoyable.
I liked the blurb, but I was hesitant since it has cards as the source of power. I’m actually really happy I decided to read this. This was an emotional read, and Arthur grows up with a lot of things happening. I absolutely approve of the actions at the end of the book. The cliffhanger was expected, but worth it. I’m excited to see what comes next. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Threat from the Deep by Shane Purdy, third in the Rise of the Winter Wolf series. Five stars, finished June 3, 2023.
I’m really impressed.
I like that a reason for random hatred is given, even if Wolf doesn’t understand how extreme it seems to be getting. The one death hit hard, and I’m not sure what to think about that. I knew something happening was inevitable because of the attitude, but I wasn’t expecting that. I’m also worried at the mild amnesia. I will say that I expected a big shock for the audience, but it was so much more than I expected. I dunno if I could accept cults. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Beyond the Frontiers by Ell Leigh Clarke and Michael Anderle, seventy-ninth in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe and first in the Deuces Wild series. Three stars, finished June 4, 2023.
I’m kind of surprised.
This book was a drag for me. I never pictured a book with Ranger Two would be hard to pay attention to. This felt like filler. An in between story to explain something that happened. But it’s not really. The emotions dealt with were understandable, the action was okay but a bit ridiculous, and I just didn’t get how this fits, other than the characters, in with the overall Kurtherian bookverse. I did read it all, and parts did make me cry. It was not cathartic. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

An OP Returnee by Stuart Grosse, first in The OP Lich is a Returnee series. Four stars, finished June 4, 2023.
Odd but interesting
I picked this up on a whim. I tend to find returnee stories to be cathartic and funny. This specific story adds another world (isekai) aspect, which turned a lot of my assumptions on their head. I love how Akagawa is interacting with her worlds, and there are some light hearted funny moments, as well as blew everyone’s minds moments. The epilogue or last part of the book was shocking, but after I thought about it, could be expected. Adds an “oh no what will idiots attempt next”. Enjoyable and a quick read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews, seven and a half in the World of Kate Daniels, second in the Dali Harimau series, and six and a half in the Kate Daniels series. Five stars, finished June 6, 2023. A reread.
I really enjoy reading about Dali and Jim. They’re cute, and they both help each other understand more about themselves and the world.

Curious Beginnings by V.A. Lewis, first in the Salvos series. Five stars, finished June 7, 2023.
Honestly adorable
Baby demons are adorable. Salvos is funny in the mortal realm, and savage in both. I do have questions about the different type demons spawn with. I hope Salvos can become stronger and also find a way back. I’d be intrigued if the series eventually progresses to her overthrowing the current demon king, but there’s no current evidence that will be how this series will go. Daniel is an awkward mystery. I like Edythe. Very engaging story. A few minor typos and odd sentences, but not more than a few. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

New Horizons by Selkie Myth, eighth in the Beyond the Dragon Eye Moons series. Five stars, finished June, 8, 2023.
Slow read but fascinating
I can’t say that I know enough about the human body to know how factual this book, and series, are. The way it’s written is fascinating, technical, and by that only makes a lot of it sound plausible. Even if it’s mostly fantasy, it makes sense in this series.
The trauma that the characters go through had me crying with them, and for them when they relegated grieving to be something for later processing when they felt safe. School is fun and has many new adventures.
The chemistry is fun too. Auri has some fun adventures and new goals, and Fenrir’s detective side is cute.
Regarding my last review, AMBER is explained quickly, and my panic abated.

The Gladiator Gauntlet by Selkie Myth, ninth in the Beyond the Dragon Eye Moons series. Five stars, finished June 9, 2023.
Shorter than previous books, I think.
Being a shorter book is not a bad thing; it just surprised me. Thrilling growth and energy destructions. The dissertations (or theses presentations and defenses) were fascinating, in my opinion. Notoriety is rising yet again in this changed world. I am really hoping Night is going to be found in the next book.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: The Gladiator Gauntlet https://a.co/d/gHbMETL

Under Ashen Skies by Selkie Myth, tenth in the Beyond the Dragon Eye Moons series. Five stars, finished June 10, 2023.
Extremely exciting
I love Elaine and Iona. Their bonds are precious children, and adventures seem fulfilling. They’re carving out a home and their place in the world. Arachne is funny and very devious. The relationship makes absolute sense, and it’s heartwarming to see that pair. I am extremely curious where the story will go next.

All the Skills Book 2 by Honour Rae, second in the All the Skills series. Five stars, finished June 14, 2023.
Roads to hell are paved with good intentions, sort of.
Arthur is feeling the lies he’s made a bit in this book. There are multiple startling and concerning discoveries made, and some relationships (friendship and acquaintance) become stronger. I like Marion, and I’m not sure what to think of the mind blowing implications made towards the end. I absolutely love Brixaby, and Joyberry is precious. I’m excited to see what new surprises come in future books. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Seventh Princess by D.C. Haenlien, first in the Adelheid series. Five stars, finished June 21, 2023.
Beat my expectations
I live reading about powerful women. If they’re devious or I get to follow their stories from a potentially disadvantaged start, that is even better. I’m very curious about the massively powerful being from the beginning. There are some thoughts in italics that confused me, but I think I understand better after the scenario in the woods. I have various worries, and even with the Addie being somewhat jaded, she also comes across as naive or too trusting in some situations. I do love seeing her manipulate those who think they’re in control. Extremely fun and exciting story. Now, hopefully I can binge read more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Reginnaglar Ceremony by D.C. Haenlien, second in the Adelheid series. Five stars, finished June 22, 2023.
Food, maturity, and emotional
The emphasis this series puts on food is enough to make me ravenous just reading it. The attitude Addie gives her father confused me, but then I realized it’s because of the events during their hunting trip. It was not specified until Matilda made a comment well into the book. Given some discoveries Addie makes, I’m not sure there is a current government in her world that I hope she destroys. The Ritters kind of broke my heart. I love how powerful Adel is becoming, and I am honestly hoping for some sort of powerful growth based on the potentials mentioned. I really hope to read a lot more from this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

One More Last Time by Eric Ugland, first in the Good Guys series. Five stars, finished June 23, 2023.
Comedic
I honestly didn’t expect to like this book much. The book has an abrupt beginning, and the main character seems to put a wrench in everything. It’s funny though. Montana is likeable, and he seems to be deliberately choosing to be “better” than the life he escaped. I do wonder about the woman in his past though. An enjoyable book, and a series I plan to continue. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

A Demon’s Pride by V.A. Lewis, second in the Salvos series. Four stars, finished June 23, 2023.
Entertaining
I didn’t really enjoy the constant viewpoint switch. I’m very curious about the Devil, Rachel is adorable, and the Valiant Dreamers seem okay. Salvos is hilarious in her blundering advancement. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Scions of Sylum by S.I. Waxman, second in the Whims of Gods series. Five stars, finished June 26, 2023.
Peaceful? Even with the violenceSure there’s a bit of struggling, and some random traumatic experiences (crazy class quest), but the majority of the book was a peaceful growth arc. Barb becomes a larger part of her life than I could have ever expected, and it’s hilarious. I completely forgot that there would be concern over a couple absences, and I can only imagine how big that will end up. Hex and Aarris are funny and cute together. A pleasant and feel good read, but the end was an oops that’s going to cause some issues. I am looking forward to reading more! Read with Kindle Unlimited.
