Books read in May 2023

I feel like the clock and calendar have hit 3x on a fast forward. Here are May’s reads, and here’s also a crossing of my fingers that I can get these all on here, and finish my homework in time.

Hamma’s Last Prayer by A.F. Kay and B.R. Bea, #6.5 in the Divine Apostasy series, first in the Black Pyramid Legends series. Four stars, finished May 7, 2023.
Good ending.
I haven’t really liked Hamma, and this book took that feeling and ran with it. Yes, stakes in this quest were intense, but Hamma and new friends bonded beautifully. Archie is a new favorite. This was an entertaining side story, but Hamma barely solves a few of her issues. At least Blapy is making her confront her issues. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Life in the North by Tao Wong, first in the System Apocalypse series. Four stars, finished May 8, 2023.
I read this because of a different book’s bad review. That amuses me.
The main character has a motto I like, “What is, is.” That said, he seems to have had trauma all his life, in various forms. This book has an interesting progression, but the classes seem limiting, and the bad characters (looking at the cheater) are disgusting. They don’t even have a positive influence on the story, but make things worse. In the book, the idea seems to be, ‘how much can we push the main character before we gleefully enjoy him breaking?’ I’m unsure whether I liked this book. It was a great read, but the ending just lost me. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Tree of Aeons by spaizzzer, first in the Tree of Aeons series. Five stars, finished May 10, 2023. A favorite series.
Actually very engaging.
This is probably the first book I’ve read with a tree as the main character and primary focus. The story was much more engaging than I expected. It’s fascinating how he develops. Time flows both slow and fast, and there’s always something new and interesting that pops up. I will say I’m not sure about Horns after a while, because he seems to be becoming a bit intense. I also really like Meela, but I have the same distrust for the new researcher. I look forward to reading more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Peace Spawner by Alvin Atwater, fourth in the Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker series. Five stars, finished May 11. A favorite series.
An explosion of progress.
Even with massive battles, Nate and his growing adopted clan have a wholesome adventure. Nate has responsibility kind of forced in his face. It’s easy to refuse involvement until things directly affect you. I’m extremely curious about the parents, and I’m curious what Aline has next. Will they be involved? Biting my nails in anticipation for the next book. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Dawn of the Void Book One by Phil Tucker, first in the Dawn of the Void series. Three stars, finished May 13.
Interesting spin on this litrpg apocalypse.
I like the idea of a broken homeless man finding his inner strength and healing and then becoming the lead in pushing back monsters. I also like the idea of a broken drug addicted woman finding her own inner strength and healing and being part of a kick*** pair. At the same time, this book was hard for me to love. There’s a lot of discussion about past trauma, there’s a lot of graphic violence. There’s also annoying politics. This was still an interesting, and new to me, storyline for a litrpg. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Human Insanity by KamikazePotato, first in the An Outcast in Another World series. Five stars, finished May 16.
Honestly? Wow.
I have to say that I spent a lot of emotional debate as to whether I liked this story. Rob is relatable. The fantasy world is bonkers, which only precedes to become more bonkers. Saved a bestie only to be stolen to a new world, survive all manner of traumatic new experiences, discover people —then find out there’s been genocide with questionable sources. The Deities in the background flipping coins add a hilarious few sentences. Rob’s end of the book was exciting and terrifying. The epilogue was sweet, and I agree it’s what Rob would have wanted. I’ve decided I definitely love the series. It’s so unpredictable, I’m eager to experience the next blindsides. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Shared Insanity by KamikazePotato, second in the An Outcast in Another World series. Five stars, finished May 19.
It’s nice, in a traumatic way.
I can’t say I love the “system” aspects in this series compared to other series. I also dislike the fact that leveling doesn’t seem to increase human longevity. Despite this, I really enjoy reading this series. It makes me laugh and smile. It even has relatable PTSD moments (from a c-ptsd perspective). The build up to experiencing a bad skill, and the duration and aftereffects still shocked me. The potential love triangles are amusing, and I almost think a polyamory possibility would be interesting. Anyway, I loved reading this. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn, fourth in the Bridgertons series. Four stars, finished May 19.
I had my suspicions, but I had myself convinced I was wrong. This made me laugh a lot. Sweet, if frustrating romance. I dislike some of Colin’s behaviors and thoughts. Still, that added an aspect of realism. The characters are perfect, but written as people with flaws. Enjoyable read. Read from my library.
Romancing Mr. Bridgerton: The Second Epilogue.
This was included in the audiobook I checked out from my library through Libby app. This epilogue seemed pretty bizarre, and it seemed to have a future before a past. Still, it was sweet.
Again, read through my library via the Libby app.

The Path of Ascension 3 by C. Mantis, obviously third in the series it’s named after…. Five stars, finished May 22. A favorite series.
War games and convoluted plots
Matt’s team, including some temporary additions, do a lot of growing up. I actually really love that mental health and it’s related treatments are important to this bookverse. I like Luna, and not just because of her name (my oldest’s name is Lunari). Luna is going to be a harsh task master. I agree with Matt that politics is mentally draining and exhausting. The war seems to be a combination of brutality, toddler squabbling, and almost every person looking for their own individual successes. Can’t say I like any of the new nobility. Well, as long as Albert and Juni are part of that. Fun read, and made me laugh. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Rising Insanity by KamikazePotato, third in the An Outcast in Another World series. Four stars, finished May 25, 2023.
Topsy turvy and long
The book had me feeling like I was being wrung out emotionally, and that’s a good thing. I feel invested in the story. There were parts that seemed a bit long and dry, but the majority of the book was an adrenaline rush. I had hoped that at least one of a seldom seen group would be worth their existence, but alas I’m now priming my pitchfork with Elders Aleesia and Duran. Mayneth is absolutely hilarious. I want more of her blunt meddling. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Transformation by Seth Ring, fifth in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished May 26, 2023. A favorite series.
Unexpected but also expected and an fiery bull
I didn’t expect to see John travel. His rescue is touching, his growth is unsurprising but also had me feeling vindicated, and so much more. Ellie is absolutely amazing and heartwarming. John’s solution seemed obvious to me, but I didn’t expect how that confrontation would turn out. Highly enjoyed this book, and I don’t regret binge reading instead of sleeping. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Reunion by J.D. Olson, second in the Electrifies series. Four stars, finished May 28, 2023.
Fun read
It’s interesting to see the new elementals have species’ drawbacks like pride and disconnect. Ione is as adorable as ever, and I loved reading her perspectives. This book raised questions about the twins’ mother. I’m sure that will play into the storyline eventually. And of course, the powerful individuals at the top are plotting. Reading this book had me clapping in excitement many times. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Books read in April 2023

Torith by SunriseCV, second in the System Universe series. Five stars, finished April 2, 2023. A favorite series.
Bunny Silvi is becoming my favorite.
I have to say, I really enjoy this series. There’s some murder-hobo, a lethal and ruthless bunny who is becoming quite the cook, and corrupt officials to depose. The series has a little bit of everything. Derek is amusing, and I am hoping this series continues for a while. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Initialization by Shane Purdy, first in the Rise of the Winter Wolf series. Five stars, finished April 3, 2023. A favorite series.
Absolutely exciting.
The book starts off pretty funnily. Our starting character and his family are former government assassins, or had trained to eventually become. I’m amused with Wolf’s attitude. His sister seems extremely young and naive, and the obsessed friend is… odd. Honestly, if the gender was reversed it wouldn’t be “cute”. On that premise alone, I dislike her. The Empress is absolutely bonkers, and I love her. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Initialization: A Livestreamed Dungeon Crawl LitRPG (The Rise of the Winter Wolf Book 1) https://a.co/d/6kYrXBC

The Change by Shane Purdy, second in the Rise of the Winter Wolf series. Five stars, finished April 4, 2023. A favorite series.
A cute pet!
I love the curve that is thrown at our mc. He goes from no to oops. It’s honestly hilarious. I absolutely love his companion, even knowing her species. It’s also amusing how Wolf reacts to any player other than Vulcan. Ngl, I kept expecting a switch from god-complex to Star Trek fan. Understanding motivation doesn’t change much in my perception. I am extremely curious what the difference between werewolves and lycanthropes will be. In any story I’ve read they were synonymous. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Threat from the Deep by Shane Purdy, third in the Rise of the Winter Wolf series. Five stars, finished April 6, 2023. A favorite series.
I’m really impressed.
I like that a reason for random hatred is given, even if Wolf doesn’t understand how extreme it seems to be getting. The one death hit hard, and I’m not sure what to think about that. I knew something happening was inevitable because of the attitude, but I wasn’t expecting that. I’m also worried at the mild amnesia. I will say that I expected a big shock for the audience, but it was so much more than I expected. I dunno if I could accept cults. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Threat from the Deep: A Livestreamed Dungeon Crawl LitRPG (The Rise of the Winter Wolf Book 3) https://a.co/d/1S2Lpqr

The Awakening by Shane Purdy, fourth in the Rise of the Winter Wolf series. Five stars, finished April 6, 2023. A favorite series.
A clash of Titans.
Wolf and Sapphire have some extreme changes and close calls. I’m also interested in the beings from an unknown council, the reason for specific members to clash, and the hope for both siblings to flip everyone off and be doubly powerful. It’s amusing to see the System Mascots, and I hope there’s A positive purpose for them eventually. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Awakening: A Livestreamed Dungeon Crawl LitRPG (The Rise of the Winter Wolf Book 4) https://a.co/d/5ngJavy

The Fortifier by D.K. Landtroop, first in the Fortifier series. Four stars, finished April 10, 2023.
Repressing emotions.
First, I extremely dislike Melissa. Yet another woman character with weird behavior that would be unconscionable if a man behaved that way with a woman. There’s a lot of hidden information pointed out. I’m hoping the personal AI’s are better than MC thinks. The repressed emotions seem to be starting a very bad side effect. The losses and traumas the characters experience make their emotions completely understandable. It was a good read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Ranger’s Dawn by Selkie Myth, third in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Three stars, finished April 11, 2023.
Good, but…
This is still a great series and has an interesting storyline. However, ending every single chapter with character stats became frustrating quickly and I skipped most so I could get to the >story< parts. The last Elaine chapter ended as reports and didn’t even include story passages.
Second frustration: Again, the book ends seemingly far in the future, and that main character, Iona, is interesting but I’d prefer it as another series. Adding it wasn’t as confusing as in the previous book, but it still felt random.
The storyline(s) are interesting, generate a lot of laughter, and were exciting in many areas. Read with Kindle Unlimited, but this series seems to no longer be in KU.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: Ranger’s Dawn https://a.co/d/g3v1UzR

Beyond the Wall by Selkie Myth, fourth in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Five stars, finished April 15, 2023.
The end is still annoying, but my favorite fmc is amazing.
I absolutely love how Elaine is growing. Being a Sentinel is forcing her to grow up emotionally and yet she also has quite a bit of wisdom since she has some knowledge of her past life. The losses of loved characters had me crying. The Guardians were beautifully terrifying.
I dislike what seems like a time-skip forward to follow Iona. She may have grown up, at least some, at this point, but swapping viewpoints is frustrating. The teasing hints about the characters the series originally follows infuriates me. Still, I’ve grown to expect the add on and to tolerate it. Perhaps I can learn to like Iona too since she too is a strong and driven individual with a Vow of her own. Read with Kindle Unlimited, but this series seems to no longer be in KU.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: Beyond the Wall https://a.co/d/iHnafJY

Moonveiled Journeys by Selkie Myth, fifth in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Five stars, finished April 16, 2023.
Terrifying and exciting.
After barely escaping the Titan style battle on the surface, there are understandable struggles. There’s also a level of separation between Elaine and her companions. She finds the dwarves to be xenophobic, and because of this she doesn’t trust them much. It doesn’t help that when dwarves who are higher in society realize how capable she is. She is then a treasured captive basically. She makes a desperate escape, even knowing there could be more danger. I figured she’d find some high level monsters, but she stumbles on a completely unexpected one. That was a fun if scary series of events, then a new adventure. I love her flying option now.
Also, the inevitable ending the book with a separate character was great. You can understand who is that character and why. It was a relief to not read about a random and seemingly unrelated character. Read with Kindle Unlimited, but this series seems to no longer be in KU.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: Moonveiled Journeys https://a.co/d/27bCjLH

Immortal Moments by Selkie Myth, sixth in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Four stars, finished April 26, 2023.
I’m a bit judgemental.
Honestly, Elaine lets all of her instincts go once she finds a group to travel with. She seemed more like a kid than I thought she did in previous books. I’m ambivalent to a lot of the actions in this, and I was sad to not see more of Elaine’s future homecoming.
I’m still frustrated with Iona’s additions. That part is just beyond confusing. The wording of some of the companion characters had me comparing them to shimago notifications, and makes me wonder if there’s any correlation. Read with Kindle Unlimited, but this series seems to no longer be in KU.

Return to Remus by Selkie Myth, seventh in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Five stars, finished April 18, 2023.
Best, but sad, ending yet.
At this point, I think I finally understand why Iona has been a fixed character in the end of most of these books. I’m worried, who is Amber??! The beloved Auri does some slight growing up. Honestly, the end of the book had me reeling. I’m not sure what Elaine will do now. Read with Kindle Unlimited, but this series seems to no longer be in KU.

System Reborn Vol 4 by Kaz Hunter, fourth in the Apocalypse Reincarnation series. Three stars, finished April 19.
Happy ending at least.
I didn’t expect the way Sloane had to fight and pair up to officially win. There weren’t as many pronoun issues in this book as there were in the previous books. Good story, and okay ending. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

He Who Fights with Monsters 9 by Shirtaloon/Travis Deverell, ninth in the HWFWM series. Five stars, finished April 24. A favorite series.
How dare an ant be so powerful I must acknowledge it?
The question in my heading encapsulates this book adroitly, in my opinion. Honestly, it kind of mirrors Jason and every single foe he’s had up to this point. While some momentus things happen, I love that the focus is on Jason healing and being given time to decide who he will become. He’s stepped onto a playing field that should have dwarfed him many adventures ago, and he’s still refusing to bend. I am already wishing I could read the next books. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Azarinth Healer: Book 2 by Rhaegar, second in the Azarinth Healer series. Five stars, finished April 28, 2023. Possibly a favorite series.
Always in the midst.
Ilea is as usual freaking awesome and absolutely crazy. Even with how scattered she can be, she has started a fun adventure as a team. Of course, someone throws a wrench in that and things spiral quickly. There are snippets of past and new characters, so many of her previous acquaintances seem to be important. Cless is adorable, but the way her paintings are described makes me wonder if people are oblivious. They just seem very obvious when described and yet the viewers only give them a passing thought. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Some of my reviews lately don’t show up on GoodReads, so I’ll have to keep track of that. Thankfully, the blog and other platforms are alternatives.

Books read in March 2023

The year is almost over lol, so I need to get these posted already. Hope you find a new book to enjoy.

The Sixth Rune by A.F. Kay, sixth in the Divine Apostasy series. Four stars, finished March 3, 2023.
The responsibilities are endless.
Much of this book is spent battling depression and loneliness from Ruwan’s extreme isolation. He makes massive gains though. Past actions do catch up with him, and he makes at least one potentially catastrophic choice. I understand it though. I am curious how things will progress. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Sixth Rune: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Divine Apostasy Book 6) https://a.co/d/6Bx4NYs

House Wolf by Tom Elliott, fourth in the Grand Game series. Five stars, finished March 4, 2023. A favorite series.
Endless struggle towards growth.
Michael and his adventures are still extremely captivating and thrilling. My dislike towards Loken only deepens. Michael seems to acquire difficult to seemingly impossible tasks, but he keeps meeting and surpassing expectations. I hope the next book will be available soon, and it’s worth the wait. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
House Wolf, The Grand Game, Book 4: A Dark Fantasy LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/hw48njB

The Primal Hunter 5 by Zogarth, fifth in the Primal Hunter series. Five stars, finished March 7, 2023. A favorite series.
The prequel prepared me.
I love the ribbing the author gives themselves and the series in each prequel. I find it hilarious when more Jake, Jakob, etc. characters pop up. Sylphie makes friends, and Miranda has fun too. I’m curious about how Jake’s new Unique Lifeform hanger on will develop going forward. Lots of fun soloing new experiences, with some team shenanigans. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Primal Hunter 5: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/dNZT0jV

Shadow’s Seventh Step by A.F. Kay, seventh in the Divine Apostasy series. Four stars, finished March 9, 2023.
A fracturing
Ruwan goes through a lot, yet again. He is wise and it’s easy to forget that he’s a child. He is learning many harsh lessons. He seems to find enemies everywhere, and some allies may not be always positive (but the golem means well). Definitely a series I need more of. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Shadow’s Seventh Step: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Divine Apostasy Book 7) https://a.co/d/iWsUt5Z

Cataclysm by J.A. Hunter (also known as James A. Hunter), first in the Viridian Gate Online series. Five stars, finished March 10, 2023.
Enjoyed more than expected.
This book starts out extremely depressing and scary—accurately portraying the main character’s mindset. It created more realism for me, and drew me in. I am excited to see Sophia’s gambit, and it’s pretty mind blowing. I’m not surprised at all about the greasy palms. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Crimson Alliance by J.A. Hunter/James A. Hunter, second in the Viridian Gate Online series. Four stars, finished March 11, 2023.
The end shocked me.
This book adds more substance to Jack’s new adventurous life, and the different types of beings are interesting. I wonder if any Players were able to choose beasts/monsters as their characters. Spider Queen is abhorrently fascinating. The developing relationship with Abby seems both meh and underdone. I’m just not sure I see why they should be a pair. I like Devil and hope to see more fun pets. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Viridian Gate Online: Crimson Alliance: A LitRPG Fantasy Adventure (The Viridian Gate Archives Book 2) https://a.co/d/esaDIci

The Pinnacle of Power by Alvin Atwater, first in the Pinnacle of Power series. Five stars, finished March 13, 2023.
Entertaining and fun.
The number of tropes the main character points out and makes fun of, or face palms when he sees them, is hilarious and a positive to the story. The continued mentioning of a mysterious cousin is amusing, specifically because it’s inevitably going to be the cousin he thinks it couldn’t possibly be. Read with Kindle Unlimited. I’m hoping this series continues.
The Pinnacle of Power (LitRPG) R: Vol. 1 https://a.co/d/1zcgTsL

The Frontier by Alexey Osadchuk, second in the Last Life series. Five stars, finished March 15, 2023.
More discovery of his past identity.
In the first book, the main character appeared to almost forget himself while adapting and changing the life he took over. This book felt like he’s allowing himself to actually be his past self. I like the allies he’s attracting, and my curiosity for the different areas of this new world is only increasing. The first book was a fun read, and this book was even more captivating. Bought this book because only the first book in the series is on Kindle Unlimited.
The Frontier (Last Life Book #2): A Progression Fantasy Series https://a.co/d/fp978vZ

The Path of Ascension by C. Mantis, first in the Path of Ascension series. Five stars, finished March 18, 2023. Not quite a favorite series, but close.
Exciting.
I waited a while before starting to read this. This was a fun, exciting, and emotionally relatable book. I laughed when petty theft from idiots was applauded. Matt spends a good bit of this alone, then he’s blessed with an animal companion, and later makes a team. The fling was upsetting because of how it affected him. I’m fascinated with the growth system in this book, but the charts were kind of unreadable. They usually had weird spacing for three pages (read on my fire tablet). After the book ended, the first recommended book had the bio for this book instead. I’m curious to see how this fledgling team will progress. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Path of Ascension: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/gNiXlOE

Path of Stars by David North, fifth in the Guardian of Aster Fall series. Five stars, finished March 21, 2023. An absolute favorite series.
Still my favorite in this genre.
I love how Sam is growing. Yes, he’s still experiencing rapid growth and many battles, but they’re less tense. He is working towards a positive goal of learning about himself and his race, and seems less stressed. The yearning for home is still a consuming aspect to him, but learning about events of the past, and self-discovery makes for a beautiful journey. I’m excited to follow Sam’s journey in (hopefully many) future books. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Path of Stars (Guardian of Aster Fall Book 5) https://a.co/d/adBtQWV

Path of Ascension 2 by C. Mantis, second in the Path of Ascension series. Five stars, finished March 21, 2023. Not quite a favorite series, but close.
More exciting speed-growing.
This was a fun read. I like Camilla, and I find it hilarious that a relative interfered exactly like Liz tried to run away from. There are some moral quandaries, but I believe that the situation they contributed to was just sped up with their actions, not just directly caused. The end of the book with Matt, Liz, and bunny obsessed Aster just running rifts is nice. The observers reactions and statements made me laugh. I am curious about the breathing down the neck that happened at an item evaluation. I’m really enjoying this series and I need more. Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Path of Ascension 2: A LitRPG Adventure https://a.co/d/dmS8DOg

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn, third in the Bridgertons series. Five stars, finished March 27, 2023. Audiobook from my local library.
There are multiple times in this book that I feared a a happily ever after was impossible. I absolutely love Lady Bridgerton’s encouragement and interaction with both girls right before the end of the book. I needed to read a happy story, and this was perfect. And the Epilogue: This was included in the audiobook I checked out from the library. The machinations of married couples wanting to see siblings married is always a fun story. While there are minor spoilers, they weren’t as overt.

Breaker of Horizons by NoDragons, first in the Breaker of Horizons series. Four stars, finished March 30, 2023.
Interesting, vicious, and a focus on cute.
This system is extremely complex, and I feel like I only have the tiniest glimpse of a massive corruption. Nic is fascinating. I love that he is an axolotl, and all the references to different beings cuteness is funny. I honestly hope at this point that he can surpass the system gods and bring some empathy to the system. Still, it was a fun read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Books read in February 2023

I dislike when I’m maudlin. I find myself in that headspace a lot though. Books usually help, but I’m being very flighty with books now, so this post might help. By flighty I mean that I currently have four books I’ve started reading and then I get bored, annoyed, or distracted and start another. So! Here are the books I read in February 2023.

Temper by Xander Boyce, second in the Red Mage series. Finished February 1,2023. Three stars.
Enjoyable but disjointed

I have to say that the historical fanatic passages at the beginning of these books drain a lot of enjoyment out of them for me. The story is pretty interesting, and it’s nice to see Drew’s team solidifying and taking some of the pressure off of him. So far I like the new guard, but I still have reservations on any characters with outside knowledge and impact. For whatever reason, context clues show that this dimensional version of Drew and Earth are being targeted possibly more heavily than others. Interesting read, but I’m not sure if I’ll read more yet.
Temper: An Apocalyptic LitRPG Series (Red Mage Book 2)

System Reborn Vol 1 by Kaz Hunter, first in the Apocalypse Reincarnation series. Finished February 2, 2023. Four stars.
Much shorter than I expected

Decent world building, but not much is seen yet. The characters I’ve met so far are interesting. This was a very short read, and ended abruptly for me. There is some first person and third person double speak—like the author missed a couple spots editing. That wasn’t huge, it just had me reread a couple passages multiple times to make sense. Editing aside (which can happen to any author) this was a fun read.
Read through Kindle Unlimited.
System Reborn Vol 1: A LitRPG Adventure (Apocalypse Reincarnation)

System Reborn Vol 2 by Kaz Hunter, second in the Apocalypse Reincarnation series. Finished February 3, 2023. Four stars.
Entertaining read with sadness

The book is following multiple series of events and it’s exciting. Sloane levels fast. I’m curious at the change in monsters’ intelligence and the System seemingly forcing Sloane on a path of power. Looking forward to reading more.
Read with Kindle Unlimited.
System Reborn Vol 2: A LitRPG Adventure (Apocalypse Reincarnation)

Eight by Samer Rabadi, first the the Eight series. Finished February 4. Five stars.
Absolutely exciting

The premise of this book seemed interesting so I had to read it. I love the mix of ages won wisdom and childlike curiosity. The deities and spirit in this are bizarre, mysterious, mischievous, and continually surprised me. I live the new friend, and the non-gendered language for beings of unknown gender. That is a small detail but a positive for me. The blend of Ollie’s previous life experiences and his embracing this new reality are paired extremely well. I’m excited to read more.
Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Eight: A LitRPG Novel of Magical Survival

The Way of the Hunter by Samer Rabadi, second in the Eight series. Finished February 5. Five stars.
Values clash

This book was deep in many ways. The story is beautifully complex and segues into each new event perfectly. Eight and his lichen grow up a bit together. Some of the lessons they learn and teach seem brutal, but are necessary. I don’t think a content disclaimer is needed, but there is dreamed harm and threats to children, for those who need to know to expect that. Eight is still a delightful complex combination of a new over powered child with the wisdom and experience his previous life bring. I’m not sure how to feel about some decisions made that shook Eight’s trust. He handles those in ways that are mature, and surprising. I am really anticipating reading more.

Eight 2: The Way of the Hunter, A LitRPG Adventure

Apocalypse Tamer by Maxine J. Durand/Void Herald, first in the Apocalypse Tamer series. Read and did not finish February 7. Two stars.

I did not finish this book. It has a cute and ridiculous storyline, but there are multiple references to Christianity in a way that just hit my Nope button. Other than that it was an enjoyable read. I only stopped when perspective shifted to another person. The fact that Basil finds his murderous pets to be adorable is a huge positive to this book.

Apocalypse Tamer: A LitRPG Adventure

Godkiller Mode by C.J. Carella, first in the Godkiller Chronicles. Finished February 9. Five stars.
Naive and OP

The book starts like a nightmare, but our plucky fmc is luckily the daughter of a soldier. It might be a little cliche to start with that, but it positively adds backstory. Caitlin does seem to be changing emotionally. That is completely understandable with this abduction and new and very traumatic way of life. I love how she continually steals power for herself, I kind of like her team, and the abilities she obtains kept surprising me. I loved this book.

Godkiller Mode: A LitRPG Adventure (The Godkiller Chronicles Book 1)

Magical Midlife Challenge by K.F. Breene, sixth in the Leveling Up series. Finished February 9. Four stars.
Cute and ridiculous as usual

This is a feel-good series for me. While there are some epic battle scenes, it was nice seeing the Ivy House crew and compatriots have some shenanigan filled relaxation time. The social norms for the basajuanak are very intriguing, and very eye opening. I kind of liked the murder-gnomes and I’m crossing my fingers that they can be tamed and added to the creepy doll warriors. It’s just hilarious, adorable, and deviously vicious.

Magical Midlife Challenge (Leveling Up Book 6)

Queen of Blood and Shadows by C.J. Carella, second in the Godkiller Chronicles. Finished February 11. Five stars.
OPing can be isolating

So first, I really despise Donna. She’s mad that she’s being told harsh truths and not being protected. Like Caitlin, that attitude just does not make sense to me. Seeing Caitlin and her friends power up and become closer is nice. Multiple incidents happen that are creating some isolating space between Caitlin and those around her. I really find Coyote and Shurupuk to be annoying.

Queen of Blood and Shadows: A LitRPG Adventure (The Godkiller Chronicles Book 2)

Rogue Goddess by C.J. Carella, third in the Godkiller Chronicles. Finished February 12. Three stars.
Waffling

The way this book ends made me angry. I dislike the enforced distance between Caitlin and her friends. I also hate that she has to play the puppet for a while. I’m starting to like the Arbiters a bit more, and I have a growing distrust and aggro for the Makers. One of the people disappointed me more than I expected, and Caitlin’s understanding is more mature than I could have been. The group is, in my opinion, weaker now and I’m not sure how they can go forward. I am looking forward to Caitlin causing massive chaos for this reality.

Rogue Goddess: A LitRPG Adventure (The Godkiller Chronicles Book 3)

Apocalypse Rising by D.B. King and Nick Law, first in the World End series. Finished February 15. Four stars.
Pretty exciting but also emotional

The small tidbits of backstory are captivating and inspire an empathy to Bain in me. I also hope to discover more. The end of the book shares each characters’ stats at the time the book ends, and I think a small summary of each characters’ backstory would be interesting there. I’m not sure what to think about the agents. I love Pasha. Now we just need a catlike being. This book was exciting because there was always another hurdle coming, even if resting. The premise for humanity breaks my heart. I can imagine prisoners excelling, but I can’t relate to the complete eradication of any “weak” class. This adds a unique twist to this bookverse, and one I hadn’t seen in LitRPG/GameLit series so far. I’m interested to see what happens next.

Apocalypse Rising: A LitRPG Adventure (World End Book 1)

System Reborn Vol 3 by Kaz Hunter, third in the Apocalypse Reincarnation series. Finished February 15. Five stars.
Ah sweet vengeance

Sloane is speeding through power advancement, and at the same time it seems his affection for the two people he’s gotten to know since resurrecting. There are still grammar issues, but the story is still exciting. The points of view are off quite a bit. I’m still loving this series and the thirst for vengeance is definitely appealing.

System Reborn Vol 3: A LitRPG Adventure (Apocalypse Reincarnation)

Shade’s First Rule by A.F. Kay, first in the Divine Apostasy series. Finished February 16. Five stars.
Young characters but thrilling

I think I’m too used to reading about adults in LitRPG/GameLit books. There’s corruption, higher powers playing puppeteers, and a lot of new mysteries discovered with each secret learned. This ended on a cliffhanger, so I’m hoping that means a quick save in the next book. I really like Blapy, she’s got a chaotic good style so far. The characters this book focused on (main character and his new friend) are very young minded. Innocence, blind trust, naive through lack of experience, even when they’re strong based on power they still act their ages. It’s a positive aspect to the story. Another series to feed my reading obsession.

Shade’s First Rule (Divine Apostasy Book 1)

The Second Betrayal by A.F. Kay, second in the Divine Apostasy series. Finished February 18. Five stars.
The end had me screaming

I love the growth the characters make in this book. The expansion of Ruwan’s circle is necessary. It does suck that he feels he has secrets he can’t share. I didn’t expect the betrayal, nor the discoveries after it. I think I love dungeons after this.
Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Second Betrayal: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Divine Apostasy Book 2)

Uru’s Third Temple by A.F. Kay, third in the Divine Apostasy series. Finished February 19. Five stars.
Growth and strong obligations

Ruwan grows so much in this book. I really like Rami. The group finds out some of how far Uru has planned. It is extremely convoluted. Many of the experiences Ruwan has and subjects him to are beyond comprehension, but he’s pushing hard to be ready for whatever is going to happen. He feels responsible for so much, and sadly is because of other’s choices. I like that some enmity is healed.

Uru’s Third Temple: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Divine Apostasy Book 3)

The Fourth Secret by A.F. Kay, fourth in the Divine Apostasy series. Finished February 21. Five stars.
Politics

Ruwan has to navigate a lot of politics, and it is basically a toddler fight. That seems to be the same no matter if it’s in a book or real world (looking at my US representation). He manages to get a lot done. He forms some new relationships, and the epilogue had me laughing at the irony. There are philosophical issues in this. Ruwan will have to decide, and has been forced to contemplate, if the end justifies the means. The next adventure sounds more laid back, but I’m sure that will spiral into chaos since Ruwan is involved.
Read with Kindle Unlimited.
The Fourth Secret: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Divine Apostasy Book 4)

Bastard by Alexey Osadchuk, first in the Last Life series. Finished February 22. Three and a half stars.
Three and a half

This book is interesting. Starting the way it did gave a little of a sad backstory. This flows well into MC’s new life. There are so many possible expectations. I am concerned with the build-up and dream about Thais. I hope this doesn’t go in a concerning direction. The “honor” system in this society is hilarious, and perfect for a mischief making guy with no compunction about murder. Kept me captivated.
Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Bastard (Last Life Book #1): A Progression Fantasy Series

Fermentation by Seth Ring, fourth in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Finished February 26. Five stars.
Cliffhanger

It’s cute the way John and Ellie are getting closer, even if John is slower than molasses. I’m kind of disappointed in the decision Katrine makes. There are big revelations discovered, and the end is a sad cliffhanger. Ferdie is hilarious. He collects minions like John does. They all sound terrifying, but also cute.

Fermentation: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Battle Mage Farmer Book 4)

Legion’s Fifth Vault by A.F. Kay, fifth in the Divine Apostasy series. Finished February 27. Five stars.
Talk about isolation

In a previous review I mentioned how Ruwan keeps being isolated from those around him. The absolute irony of the isolation in this is hilarious. I had hoped to like a character, but that ship sailed and they suck. I’m curious about Blapy’s experiment.
Read with Kindle Unlimited.
Legion’s Fifth Vault: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure (Divine Apostasy Book 5)

Rebirth by J.D. Olson, first in the Electrified series. Finished February 27. Five stars.
An actual rectification

I expected this to have a death variant heroine. The beginning of the book does have zombies, but the fmc is actually brought back alive. The system is snarky, the fmc is a loner on a path to being a major powerhouse, and she ends the story with allies, friends, and potential allies. I’m very concerned about the flashback of other’s experiencing the integration. Green villain is setting up a nasty villain arc. I am excited to see where these adventures go next.
Read with Kindle Unlimited, but the rest of the series is not in KU. They have a good price, so I have continued buying the subsequent books in the series as they come available.
Rebirth: A LitRPG Apocalypse Adventure (Electrified Book 1)

That brings an end to my February reads, and I enjoyed reading them. Hopefully, they will be fun to read for you as well.

There’s never enough time for reading

Reading has always been, and will always be, my obsession in life. Here’s a lot I’ve read so far. (All books were read with Kindle Unlimited.)

Books read in January after the 8th:

Threshold by Nicoli Gonnella, fifth in the Unbound series. Finished Jan. 11, 2023. 5 stars.
Absolutely astonishing.
I cannot express how exciting I feel to find myself continually surprised by Felix. Darius continually finding a new infuriating anything relating to Felix is hilarious. I’m extremely curious to find out in upcoming books how significant Pit’s cryptic statements will become. If you ever seethed to protect and defend those you care about, then this is an invigorating adventure of refusing the way things have “always been”. Defiance is beautiful.
Threshold: A LitRPG Adventure (Unbound Book 5)

Lotus Lake by Jay Boyce, first in the Rise of the Mystic Mage series. Finished January 13, 2023. 5 stars.
Came back to this book.
I picked this book up a while ago, but time travel makes me uncomfortable lol so I put it down. I have been craving a strong female/woman/girl character in books, and I’m a huge fun of the Touch of Power series. I decided to pick it back up and it was worth it. I love that Ash is an introvert, I relate to trauma causing a hermit mentality, and seeing her progress as a character is exciting. This is my first series where the characters are playing a game that doesn’t seem like another world (the ability to leave the game and go back basically). I absolutely loved this book and I’m excited for what could happen next.
Lotus Lake: Rise of the Mystic Mage Book 1

Shadow Trials by Isla Frost, first in the Firstborn Academy series. Finished January 14. 5 stars.
Exciting adventure.
The blurb sounded cool so I picked this up. It sat in my to be read pile for a while, but I should have read it sooner. The adventure is exciting, the looming questions and subservience are intriguing, and it has a bit of danger and stubbornness to make me obsessed. I’m excited to see where this can go next.
Firstborn Academy: Shadow Trials

Shadow Witch by Isla Frost, second in the Firstborn Academy series. Finished January 14. 4 stars.
Exciting but less momentum.
This book was a fun and interesting read. It didn’t have the save gobsmacking effect that the first did, but paved many necessary events that will stabilize many individuals in the series.
Firstborn Academy: Shadow Witch

Shadow Reaper by Isla Frost, third in the Firstborn Academy series. Finished January 15. 5 stars.
Changes
Nova and company have a huge amount of responsibility. I love the way Nova is able to help, even with losses. Reunions were probably the best part. There is a tiny amount of romance, basically kissing only.
Firstborn Academy: Shadow Reaper

Unnatural Laws by H.C. Mills, first in the Whispering Crystals series. Finished January 16, 2023. 5 stars.
A new style LitRPG for me.
I really like Emma. The attraction that is in this series so far seems blessedly not limited by gender. This starts out like a few other same genre series I’ve read. It is unique though in how it kicks off. The AI sidekicks do seem suspicious, but also motivated to help their charge progress. Now, if only I could travel, and survive, to a dimension or universe that changed my hair to stay the color I like that would be perfect. Fun series, well written with both mystery and challenge.
Unnatural Laws (The Whispering Crystals: A LitRPG Series Book 1)

Unusual Enemies by H.C. Mills, second in the Whispering Crystals series. Finished January 17, 2023. 3 stars.
Exciting read but…
Some stuff in this regarding Suri is mildly terrifying. The blooming attraction between Emma and Kat is funny and kinda concerning given the last revelation. The whole charm hiccup was hard to read, but I’m blaming Suri. I’m starting to come up with wild theories regarding the AIs.
Unusual Enemies (The Whispering Crystals: A LitRPG Series Book 2)

Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker by Alvin Atwater, first in the series Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker. Finished January 19, 2023. 5 stars.
Fun and stubborn.
This book is awesome with a “hero” who adamantly refuses the job, but then ends up being a hero to the common and powerless people he’s claimed. There are some misspellings and grammar errors, but only just enough for me to notice. They don’t detract from the book. I love the slow paced life Nate chooses, and it’s nice without being boring. That the system seems determined to force him into growth and action is amusing so far. The way this book started was new to me. Being abruptly somewhere else, a whole new world even, in the middle of a conversation would be jarring. I had fun reading this and hope to continue this series for a long while.
Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker #1: A Cultivation LitRPG Saga

Master and Apprentices by Alvin Atwater, second in the Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker series. Finished January 20, 2023. 5 stars.
Boom new devotees, boom new powerups.
Seriously, this book is hilarious in how it’s making positive enhancement happen to all the “good” characters. I honestly never know what to expect, which is exciting. I also love all the spirit characters. There’s some giant foreshadowing or foundation work being laid. This series is exciting.
Master and Apprentices: Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker #2

The Lord Ruler by Alvin Atwater, third in the Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker series. Finished January 24, 2023. 5 stars.
Progress on a chosen path.
The system in this series has tried to coerce Nate into becoming a politician or hero, but it seems to me that his choice and adamance to his potion maker class is a solution to most of the challenges he seems to be destined to face. I love the familial relationships developing. Even annoying characters are changing. The Ruler’s blindness to his daughter is confusing. I really hope to read more in this series for a long time.
The Lord Ruler: Rise of the Cheat Potion Maker #3

Defiance of the Fall 8 by TheFirstDefier/J.F. Brink, eighth in the series of the same name. Finished January 26, 2023. 5 stars.
A pleasing birthday read.
This came out the day before my birthday, so reading it felt like a birthday present.
I love how Zac defies being boxed in. It doesn’t matter who is pushing him—be they crazy and powerful parent, local powers, the system, or those who theoretically should be more powerful. He truly encapsulates defiance and I absolutely love it. One of his evolved skills seems really dark, but also intriguing. I can’t wait to see what chaos he inspires next.
Defiance of the Fall 8: A LitRPG Adventure

Outbound Healer by Selkie Myth, first in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Finished January 27, 2023. 4 stars.
From death to birth to living.
This is a new story type for me. Following Elaine as she grows up was fun, funny, with some sadness, and some clashing ideals. I like how even having kept many of her past life memories, she still is cognitively accurate to her current ages. It made the story more entertaining. Some of the aspects of the book wouldn’t be what I chose and Elaine feels shame for choosing some skills, and that was mildly questionable, but they go back to her being developmentally her current ages. Absolutely enjoyed this and I look forward to reading more.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: Oathbound Healer

Adventures in the Argo by Selkie Myth, second in the Beneath the Dragoneye Moons series. Finished January 28, 2023. 4 stars.
Fun and emotional read, confusing ending chapter.
I love how Elaine continues to grow. I’m interested to see how she can pair her Ranger career choice with her Vow going forward. It does seem limiting, but some of those limits and how to work with and around them are explored heavily in this book. I absolutely cried at some loss and growth. She’s becoming a powerhouse, but is still a bit of a glass cannon compared to others. The last chapter was extremely confusing. It seems to hold a place in the same world but also seems far into the future. I dislike the repeated theme for vow reasons. I’m not sure I’d continue reading if this continued just about Iona. The blurb for the next book gets rid of that concern.
Beneath the Dragoneye Moons: Adventures in the Argo

Misfit Alpha by Stephanie Foxe, fifth in the Cursed World series. Finished January 29, 2023. 4 stars.
Finality and struggling to victory.
Most of the characters are struggling towards their idea of victory. Amber solidifies relationships across species, and some horrid parents show how pathetic they are. I’m A bit sad about the lack of conclusion for Evangeline. Sure, she moves on, but she could probably inspire her own angsty series. I’m satisfied with the conclusion. Good read.
Misfit Alpha: An Urban Fantasy (Cursed World Book 5)

Welp, there you have it. Even when my mental state isn’t it’s best, and life becomes overwhelming, I can always experience freedom in books. I know this is a huge review list lol.

Books read between Dec. 26 and Jan. 1

Ahh a beautiful new year. I’m hesitant to call any of my goals “resolutions” because resolutions tend to fizzle out lol. I went ahead and set my goal to 300 books again. I read 242 out of the same 300 goal last year and I count that as a success.

Hunger by Nicoli Gonnella, third in the Unbound series. Five stars, finished Dec. 26.
Exciting and nerve wracking.
This book, and series, have had me biting my nails anxiously as to how Felix can defeat the forces around him. You would think monsters can’t get worse than the Undying Maw, but it seems some can at least pull even. The bond between Pit and Felix is heartwarming. The group meeting up again is fun and funny. I will say that the Pathless church seems extremely crazy, and it’s hard to comprehend their message. I’m curious if their formation will be revealed, because they’re mercilessly devout. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B4P6199X?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_F5Y2T6QXK4C8N5GKHA5Q

Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews, eighth I’m the World of Kate Daniels series. Five stars, finished Dec. 27.
Previous review: Kate’s town, friends, family and pack are threatened because of her association with them. The witches tell her to fix the problem. Hugh shows how insane he is. Spoiler! Kate meets her dad! She is wary of him and he has mixed feelings about her. A the end of the book he makes a demand and there is a big surprise. can’t wait to read more!
New review: Having read this before I kind of knew the overall series of events, but rereading has reminded me of a LOT of details that I had forgotten. Ghastek is probably still my favorite minor character. To be fair, I consider quite a few to be major characters. I enjoyed this reread. Read with Libby Library app. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G3L6JV4?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_9AD561KR81T05H3CAPX2

Fury by Nicoli Gonnella, fourth in the Unbound series. Five stars, finished Dec. 28.
Multiple tumultuous moments.
Felix has a lot of changes in this book, and many growing moments. I didn’t expect the emotion source, so that was a well-written plot device. I’m curious how Felix and Pit will travel their path, and how the new people will contribute to their path and development. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B85GDR22?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_XV3W5WAB1904145H6HE2

Misfit Pack by Stephanie Foxe, first in the Cursed World series. Five stars, finished Dec. 29.
Original review:
An adult adventure without sex lol
The fact that this is a fascinating and enthralling adult team adventure and it didn’t feature sex is funny to me because of the books I typically read. This is a promising start to what I believe will be an amazing series.
New review: I had to pick this back up so I can read the last book in the series, or what I think is the last book. This is, in my opinion, a wholesome story with adult concepts and without adult scenes. That doesn’t detract from the story, and it’s quite captivating. Available in Kindle Unlimited (at the time I post this review). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GHG4R1D?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_BMTDJAKTKSSXJSN2QMF7

Misfit Angel by Stephanie Foxe, second in the Cursed World series. Five stars, finished Dec. 31.
Old review:
The action hasn’t stopped
New adventures and challenges in this group. Plus I love the pixies – they actually remind me of a less sophisticated version of the pixies in the Hollows series. I love that their pack is continuing to embrace their misfitness.
New review:
At the end of book one, we left off with Amber going to see her family, and at the beginning of this we only see that it went badly and some lingering flashbacks. Honestly, I wish the whole encounter or scene was included. Amber has basically put herself in the mom category for her pack, without stepping on toes with that. I’m bad with character names, but I’m worried about the lawyer lady’s control. She both pushes for more responsibility and also tells herself that she’s not sure if she’ll stay a werewolf. Deward and Tommy are awesome, and I love that Deward is encouraging Tommy’s inner strength.

Dungeon Calamity by Dakota Krout, third in the Divine Dungeon series. Four stars (closer to three and a half, but no halves on Amazon), finished Dec. 31.
Took me a while.
So I would read for a bit, become annoyed by Dale and put the book down, then I’d come back because the story is absolutely interesting. Have to say, I really didn’t like Dale until the end. It’s definitely an interesting series, but I’m currently unsure if I will continue it because Cal is my favorite and I dislike seeing humans hate on him lol. I do wonder what will happen when Cal realizes a mistake he made that had massive repercussions. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RTHDP7T?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_C3F8MC0H9WRBQX27454Y

It’s a miracle! I haven’t read this many books in a week for a while. I quite enjoyed it.
Happy reading!

Books read between Dec. 19 and 25

Hopefully y’all have had a great holiday. My husband and I bought a bunch of big gifts for the kids, which has resulted in us reorganizing everything lol. Still need to get desks and chairs for them so it’s not complete yet.

Silence by Nicoli Gonnella, second in the Unbound series. Four stars, finished Dec. 22.
So many perspectives
I feel like the first book was better. This was more of a random series of events for any remotely relevant characters. I really dislike the spirit. It’s frustrating that the out was not available to all the nice characters. I’m also really sad to say goodbye to one character. I had hoped for a miracle. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZLNDWGK?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_T7XKD1KX7DXFFB15CE5T

Glamoured by Jaymin Eve, sixth and potentially last book in the Shadow Beast Shifters series. Five stars, finished Dec. 23.
An amazing read
I really love how Samantha is strong enough to make herself “weak” to keep others safe. This was an exciting and fascinating conclusion to the series. There’s enough said that if the Author changes her mind she could resurrect the series. Still, I love how the story had twists I couldn’t anticipate. Great read, and left me happy. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMVRM6Z9?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_WTJAZPFXRRDXE2F0CFTF

I’m at 236 books read this year for last week, and I’ve read another this so 237 books read so far. Happy holidays and happy reading :).

Book read between Dec. 12 through 18

I read three books last week, putting me at 234 out of my 300 goal. I’m catching up closer to the goal than I thought I would, but I still doubt I’ll read 300 lol.

The Primal Hunter 4 by Zogarth, fourth in the Primal Hunter series. Five stars, finished Dec. 13.
Steady progress
Sylphie is still a favorite character, and it’s fun seeing others warm up to her. I like the moral ambiguity in this series. The dungeon crusade was absolutely hilarious. Jake’s concept for ultimate evil had me laughing. I also enjoyed a couple references in the story, especially the wares chapter title. I got so engrossed in the story that the ending shocked me yet again. This Author is devious, and I love it. Extremely excited to read what comes next. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8FTNMS9?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_G4M46MWK27KTJFSD43NX

Sweep of the Heart by Ilona Andrews, fifth in the Innkeeper Chronicles series. Three stars, finished Dec. 15.
I’m a follower of the serial.
I really love this series, and I was really excited to read this. I read them online, and then buy the final versions when they’re released. This time, the serial ended pretty abruptly. I was surprised when a conclusion wasn’t given to the whole beginning of the book online, but I was fine to read the conclusion in the book. I’m disappointed. Wilmos is basically a byline at the end, and they could have made a much bigger ending. The previous books had a definitive conclusion, minus the missing parents backstory featured in the whole series. It was just a “what?” ending. The whole dating show gimmick was cute and new (to me). But that was supposed to lead to Wilmos, not just a “we rescued him the end”. I’ve never had an issue with any of their previous books. Bought the ebook (I own all the books in this series, to date.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BG92Z2G2?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_8W3N7PAMQQDH00ZGBMMB

He Who Fights with Monsters 8 by Shirtaloon (a.k.a. Travis Deverell), eighth in the He Who Fights with Monsters series. Five stars, finished Dec. 18.
More lighthearted again, but still deep.
Something that saddened me in this series is how Jason had so much happen to and around him that he has some valid PTSD. I love that the author includes mental health specialists even in Pallimustus’s magic world. Jason is still too willing to sacrifice himself or willing to allow himself to suffer for others. It means more pain for him, but also is in my opinion a driving force in the positive relationships he’s built with those in generally higher social and power circles than what is standard. I love this series, and there are quite a few surprises. I am curious about Shade and how he differs from Jason’s other summons. I seriously hope this series continues for a really long time. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BBWK3T9T?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dp_8SC35Y257M638X0J24MX

Even if I’m disappointed with one of these books, they’re all still part of great series and by talented authors. I personally think you wouldn’t regret reading them.
Happy reading!

Books read between Nov. 21 and Nov. 27

I found some fun series recently, and I’m hoping to find more lol. I do have a lot of books that I haven’t read yet, so I might try and pick one of those up.

A Kiss of Shadow by Linsey Hall, second in the Court of Starlight and Darkness series. Five stars, finished Nov. 21.
Gotta listen to gut instincts
This was a fun read. Sia does seem more damsel than strong, but she has her moments. I do hope she kicks everyone later for the trouble they caused. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1N6Y4Z7?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_1X62DHXTVVV7ZA7M6ZN2

A Crown of Starlight by Linsey Hall, third in the Court of Starlight and Darkness series. Five stars, finished Nov. 24.
Of course a happy ending
I loved many of the revelations in this book. It added some slight but significant depth to a couple characters. I love that Linsey always adds characters that give a hint of a future story. I’m looking forward to finding which character will have a book soon. I will say that one thing I love from this bookverse is the ability to meet lost loved ones. I’ll never get tired of that. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B75FXXLR?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_XR2MK7Z2EWKY5TY4C8PY

Cultivation by Seth Ring, third in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished Nov. 26.
Excitement and then new questions
John, Ellie, and friends do a lot in this book. I do like that John seems less self-hating. Some class surprises, and a lot of new questions. While beating one thing, failing another, and finding even more questions—I look forward to what will come next. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8FYRJWL?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_ZEASKXT75Q03YN05VRAV

Cursed by Karina Espinosa, first in the Joey Santana series. Four stars, finished Nov. 26.
Intriguing storyline
I like Joey for the most part. It’s weird that she vacillates between a strong person and then a weak person. The storyline is interesting, and shows promise of a fascinating series. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09F4LV29D?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_V6YBRHT0J20KN6J4YBNB

The Grand Game by Tom Elliott, first in the Grand Game series. Five stars, finished Nov. 26.
More exhilarating than expected
With each new event and encounter, the world, story, characters, and main character become more exciting to read about. I love the encounter with Loken, and Michael’s choice felt true to the person he is becoming. I’m not sure if any characters can learn about who they used to be, but their current lives are fascinating. Way of the Wolf by Tom Elliott, second in the Grand Game series. Five stars, finished Nov. 27.
Fun read
Michael is better at micromanaging than I could ever be. Honestly, if it were me I don’t think I could remember all of the convulsions. This only adds to the story. I know that Michael wants away, but I hope he comes back quickly. I love that he found a pack, even if those interactions went way beyond what I expected. I feel like I’ve read a lot this past week, however this only puts me at 224 books read out of my 300 goal for this year. I may not finish it, but I absolutely love all the new series I’ve found.
Happy reading!

Books read between Nov. 14 and Nov. 20

My youngest gave me whatever bug he had last week, and it hasn’t been fun lol. I have enjoyed a couple good books though.

Shifter Claimed by Alexis Calder, first in the Royal Mates series. Three stars, finished Nov. 16.
A fun read.
Even with a three star rating, I did enjoy this book. You can see an inevitable clash coming from almost the beginning. I love the backstory, the characters are well written. The story read as a vivid adventure, and some questions were sort if answered, but there are a lot more questions by the ending. I do hope there’s a logical reason for Skylar being in the dark for her life up to this point. Domestication by Seth Ring, first in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished Nov. 17.
Honestly exciting.
Throughout this book you can feel how lost and defeated many of the characters seem. The attitude John usually has is hilarious. He seems to take everything in stride and rarely feels the need to react unless his trauma is triggered. I do find his burn-it-all dark side to be cathartic. Seeing him healing from the trauma before this book starts is better though. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T75GYN7?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_13PGNZPJ03JEXEBQD4JX

Germination by Seth Ring, second in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished Nov. 18.
John is just so sad.
I am loving this series. The emotional depth a reader can feel while reading is enthralling. I hope the last scene doesn’t cause more trouble for John. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1JPNL1S?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_K1PS6GWQXBK0D1Z5HQ0G

Apocalypse Unleashed by Chris Ford, first in the Apocalypse Unleashed series. Three stars, finished Nov. 20.
Entertaining and random.
The story is definitely entertaining and interesting. It doesn’t seem to follow a predictable path, which can be a good thing. It does seem like most of the kids’ personalities go through drastic changes. The epilogue raises more questions, especially with the new view of Aiden’s town. Basically, it skipped some time. A Forest of Stars by Linsey Hall, first in the Court of Starlight and Darkness series. Four stars, finished Nov. 20.
Fun, aggravating, and exciting.
I like that Sia is strong on her own, and is making allies in unexpected places. I honestly hope she knocks some sense into Lore. Many parts felt important and significant to how the story will develop going forward. I’ve read another book this week, so that brings me up to two hundred and nineteen books I’ve read out of my goal to read three hundred books this year. Now, if I could count crochet patterns then I might actually be closer lol. Hopefully y’all don’t catch anything this holiday and going forward.
Blessed Be, happy reading, and good health to you <3.

I no longer have the associate option with Amazon, but they still have the majority of the books I read specifically because of their Kindle Unlimited subscription. I still recommend that option if you’re looking to have a large option of books available without completely breaking your wallet.
