Books read between Nov. 14 and Nov. 20

My youngest gave me whatever bug he had last week, and it hasn’t been fun lol. I have enjoyed a couple good books though.

Shifter Claimed by Alexis Calder, first in the Royal Mates series. Three stars, finished Nov. 16.
A fun read.
Even with a three star rating, I did enjoy this book. You can see an inevitable clash coming from almost the beginning. I love the backstory, the characters are well written. The story read as a vivid adventure, and some questions were sort if answered, but there are a lot more questions by the ending. I do hope there’s a logical reason for Skylar being in the dark for her life up to this point. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SJSJCVP?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_W4Z3W1T1KS57P62THVA4

Domestication by Seth Ring, first in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished Nov. 17.
Honestly exciting.
Throughout this book you can feel how lost and defeated many of the characters seem. The attitude John usually has is hilarious. He seems to take everything in stride and rarely feels the need to react unless his trauma is triggered. I do find his burn-it-all dark side to be cathartic. Seeing him healing from the trauma before this book starts is better though. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T75GYN7?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_13PGNZPJ03JEXEBQD4JX

Germination by Seth Ring, second in the Battle Mage Farmer series. Five stars, finished Nov. 18.
John is just so sad.
I am loving this series. The emotional depth a reader can feel while reading is enthralling. I hope the last scene doesn’t cause more trouble for John. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1JPNL1S?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_K1PS6GWQXBK0D1Z5HQ0G

Apocalypse Unleashed by Chris Ford, first in the Apocalypse Unleashed series. Three stars, finished Nov. 20.
Entertaining and random.
The story is definitely entertaining and interesting. It doesn’t seem to follow a predictable path, which can be a good thing. It does seem like most of the kids’ personalities go through drastic changes. The epilogue raises more questions, especially with the new view of Aiden’s town. Basically, it skipped some time. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XZ7Y9LZ?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_WTWX8Z61SA18QCTD4KM8

A Forest of Stars by Linsey Hall, first in the Court of Starlight and Darkness series. Four stars, finished Nov. 20.
Fun, aggravating, and exciting.
I like that Sia is strong on her own, and is making allies in unexpected places. I honestly hope she knocks some sense into Lore. Many parts felt important and significant to how the story will develop going forward. Read with Kindle Unlimited. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Z773HVR?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ts_1SM422NJGDE0VAPF7D1C

I’ve read another book this week, so that brings me up to two hundred and nineteen books I’ve read out of my goal to read three hundred books this year. Now, if I could count crochet patterns then I might actually be closer lol. Hopefully y’all don’t catch anything this holiday and going forward.
Blessed Be, happy reading, and good health to you <3.

I no longer have the associate option with Amazon, but they still have the majority of the books I read specifically because of their Kindle Unlimited subscription. I still recommend that option if you’re looking to have a large option of books available without completely breaking your wallet.

Books read between Nov. 7 through Nov. 13

I think I like to keep my schedule a bit hectic lol. My children and I have lots of appointments, I go to the gym, and I keep volunteering to make more granny squares for the CrochetMas trees here in Berea. I’m having fun though so I’m viewing this as a positive change. Needless to say, I’m not reading very much. Reading has always been my escape from the real world, and this has me thinking that I’m not needing to hide as much. Don’t get me wrong, as I still absolutely love books and will make time to read. It is nice to make time for other adventures though. This week I read only one book.

Wolf Domination by Avery Song, fourth in the Willow’s Forbidden Pack series. Five stars, finished Nov. 11.
Delicious and long.
I absolutely love that this book took a while for me to finish. So much happens in this. I cried during multiple incidents, and laughed uproariously in many as well. All the harem jokes were funny, and I can no longer pick a favorite in Willow’s mates. The end was beautiful, and the epilogue had my eyes open wide. I can’t wait to read Willow’s next series/books. Highly recommend this series, book, and author. She is a black author, pretty sure an indie author, and uses multiple pen names. Read this with Kindle Unlimited.

We’ve had a few days off of school for illness in our community. I’m proud of our area for taking precautions like these to keep all the kids as safe as possible. Unfortunately, my youngest still despises school paperwork lol, but we’ll manage. My oldest was sick for a bit but is mostly better.
Since I’ve been focusing on making CrochetMas tree squares (local Berea community project), and also using my newly learned crocheting skills to make presents for kids—I haven’t been able to read as much as I would like. Still, I can’t *not* read.

Defiance of the Fall 7 by TheFirstDefier J. F. Brink, seventh in the Defiance of the Fall series. Four stars, finished Sept. 2.
Some frustration
The events in the mystic realm were exciting sometimes, and at others had me laughing. The trouble Ibtep caused had me cackling. After the mystic realm there’s a time skip. Then bad crap happens that had me screaming, “what?!” I’m not sure what to think of a couple characters now. I will say that Zac started to become boring, and ended determined to set his path. I’m very curious what will happen next. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Retribution Clause by Ilona Andrews, #6.7 in the World of Kate Daniels series. Four stars, finished Nov. 4.
Interesting characters and story. It did say how a character is related to one from the main series, but it didn’t seem to have any connections to the storyline. At least, as it is up to this book in the world series. Read with the Libby Library app, inside the Small Magics Anthology.

I’m pretty happy that the eighth Defiance of the Fall book will be released the day before my birthday (releasing on January 24th). I’m going to count it as a birthday present haha.
Happy reading!

Ah the beautiful whirlwind of interesting times. 😅 Hopefully y’all are having a good time, and Happy (belated) Samhain to any Pagans who celebrate it.

Magic Gifts by Ilona Andrews, #6.5 in the World of Kate Daniels series. Five stars, finished Oct. 25.
I read this inside Gunmetal Magic, and the stories happen almost completely at the same time. At first I felt that this should have come first because of the second summoning, but after reading it and seeing how much it would spoil the other, this works. Highly enjoyable, and it feels essential to the storyline instead of an add-on. Read through Libby Library app.

Astral Threads by David North, 4th in the Guardian of Aster Fall series. Five stars, finished Oct. 28.
Epic
I absolutely love this series. It has more than a generic progression for the characters and the story. I love the amount of philosophy Sam thinks about. I’d like to follow Altey a bit more, but that’s just because I look forward to when she’s more than “Sam’s sister”. I’m not very impressed with Ayala, but that isn’t a change. I can’t wait to read what happens next. Read through Kindle Unlimited.

This past week was my kids’ fall break, and we spent it going all over the place lol. Okay, maybe not everywhere, but a lot of appointments. Still, sleep is unimportant compared to reading for me.

The Eighth Realm by Michael Chatfield, tenth in the Ten Realms series. Four stars, finished Oct. 10.
Feeling weak is hard
Most of this book felt sad, because Erik and Rugrat refuse to see that they need time to heal. They seemed a bit like rebellious teens, but that could just be my perception. I love how they work through their issues and come out even stronger. I can’t help but dislike tenth realm people. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Ninth Realm by Michael Chatfield, eleventh in the Ten Realms series. Four stars, finished Oct. 12.
A lot happens
The way Erik and Rugrat go about learning was absolutely hilarious. I really like the teacher. I’m also curious about the ascended. There’s always more questions. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Tenth Realm by Michael Chatfield, twelfth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Oct. 14.
Exciting, terrifying, exhilarating
It’s not a main part of the stories, but I like that a couple potential romances are thrown in. Makes the sap in me happy. I love that this could still continue, but doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. It will be hard to not judge new things I read with the emotions this series inspired.

Rebels by Everly Frost, first in the Assassin’s Academy series. Set in the same world as the Assassin’s Magic and the Soul Bitten Shifter series.  Chronologically set before the last book in the Assassin’s Magic series. Three stars, finished Oct. 15.
Great read, but frustrating ending
I love when an author takes a seemingly weak woman and molds her into a badazz powerhouse. The interplay between Striker and Peyton is dizzying in its push-me-pull-you attraction and negative aggression. I’m absolutely unimpressed with the ending and the blurb for the next book. I’m sure the series will have a happy ending but the path towards it seems a bit daunting. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn, second in the Bridgerton’s series. Five stars, finished Oct. 15.
Honestly, I think I love this series more for the laughter it inspires in me than any other reason. The interplay between the characters, the moments that bring me to tears, and the ones that make me smile so much it hurts—I definitely am happy to have started this series. I do roll my eyes and get a bit annoyed at the talk of mistresses, women who have sex out of wedlock, and all that BUT it’s accurate for the time period these are set it so it doesn’t bother me as much as if it were in a modern romance. I am anticipating what hijinks the rest of the Bridgerton’s will get into. Read with Libby Library app (checked out ebook from my local library).

The Viscount Who Loved Me: Second Epilogue by Julia Quinn, number 2.5 in the Bridgerton’s series. Five stars, finished Oct. 15.
This was included in the main ebook I read, and it was absolutely hilarious. However, there are spoilers in it if you haven’t read further into the series. Read with the second book, through Libby Library app.

I’m not sure where I’m burnt out, but I’m hesitant to start a new GameLit/LitRPG series or Urban Fantasy series. I’m a bit sad that I finished another series. I’ll most likely be over this in a day or two lol.

I’m also at 202 out of 300 books now. So who knows, depending on what I read I might actually meet my goal.

Good morning! I hope your week starts off well. This week is fall break for my kids so I’ll be trying to keep them occupied lol. I am also crocheting more granny squares for the Berea CrochetMas trees. I’m surprisingly having fun!

Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews, fourth in the World of Kate Daniels series. Five stars, finished Oct. 4.
I forgot how tame the romances are in this series. They’re beautiful, and honestly innocent. I’m enjoying this reread. Read by checking the ebook out from my local library.

The Seventh Realm, Part 2 by Michael Chatfield. Ninth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Oct. 7.
Literally boom
I was a bit confused when Alva and their affiliates closed off so emphatically. I don’t really like the Sha, even the “friendly” ones. The beautiful chaos Erik and Rugrat inspire is exhilarating to read. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Ooph my days are really busy lately. It’s mostly a positive change but I’m still catching up in some areas. I’m also crocheting granny squares for Berea KY’s CrochetMas trees. It was cool last year. I was going to loom knit them, but I’ve misplaced my tiny loom, so my crazy self taught myself how to crochet them lol. I find it a bit amusing and ridiculous.

The Seventh Realm, Part 1 by Michael Chatfield, eighth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished October 1.
Unexpected
I excitedly read the majority of this book with a sense of enjoyment at how they absolutely crush Alvan and Vuzgalian enemies. The massive surprise was unexpected. The losses of some important characters had me crying. I can only anticipate how much stronger Alvans will come back after this. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Magic Mourns by Ilona Andrews, 3.5 in the World of Kate Daniels series. Five stars, finished October 1.
I’m doing a reread of this series, and this is one I apparently hadn’t read yet. I checked the Must Love Hellhounds anthology with authors Ilona Andrews, Charlaine Harris, Nalini Singh, and Meljean Brook from my local library (ebook version). I can’t believe I missed the budding romance during my previous read. I love how this series pulls from mythology and I’m always surprised with how the story progresses working that in. Great read, also very sad.

I had a nice and relaxing weekend which isn’t standard for me lol. I took time to play Okami, which is a game I’ve actually beaten at least three times. I got a trophy I missed before though so that’s exciting. Now, for my reading please keep in mind that I review books that are further along in series. I try my best to keep things vague to not include spoilers, but inevitably they will sometimes happen.

The Sixth Realm, Part 1 by Michael Chatfield, sixth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Sept 20.
Grinding
This book, or the series at this point, seems to have reached a grinding requirement. Growth and achievements aren’t as easy for the characters to obtain, but they’re still pushed by the Ten Realms’ system on ways to grow. I suspected the revelation before the last fight, but parts still surprised me. I’m only becoming more hooked to this series. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Sixth Realm, Part 2 by Michael Chatfield, seventh in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Sept 25.
Waffling
I love how Erik and Rugrat have built their communities. I’m honestly annoyed with them refusing to stay responsible though. It feels like abandonment, and it seems to be an insecurity response. I legit cried when a new cook was introduced. I can only imagine what might happen next. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

Why, yes, I did forget to write this post lol. Started to do so yesterday and got distracted. I read more books this week so that made me happy. I’m also working out more and I’m pretty sure everyone knows that helps with endorphins. Anyway, to the book reviews!

The Fourth Realm by Michael Chatfield, fourth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Sept 12.
I love the ending.
The way this book, and the series, builds up is so perfectly satisfying. Each of the characters becomes important to me as I read. The losses are genuinely and emotionally experienced. This is a new favorite series, and I have high hopes for where it leads. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

The Fifth Realm by Michael Chatfield, fifth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Sept 13.
Fun and detailed read
The storyline and building concepts of this book and series are detailed in depth. I find it fascinating to read what each new ability or learned thing can do. Rugrat and Erik are blowing minds with their quick advances, but I like how they’re not racing for each new level but seeking to build a firm foundation in those levels and skills. Fun read, not much about the fifth realm in this one though. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

He Who Fights With Monsters 7 by Shirtaloon and Travis Deverell. Five stars, finished Sept 17.
Relieving
Jason has been pushed, pulled, dragged, resurrected, and more by those more powerful than he is. Usually so he can do a job they don’t want or can’t do for whatever reason. His mental health is obvious in that he’s struggling. I’m still mad and hurt at his family abandoning him. I was worried for most of this book that Jason would be taken advantage of again, but thankfully things evened out. I’m really glad he’s seeing Arabelle again (the therapist equivalent) by the end of the book. I also cried at the ending because it was beautiful. Amazing read, and I’m excited for the next book. Read with Kindle Unlimited.

7 Easy Ways to Motivate Someone With Asperger’s by Asperger Experts. Five stars, finished Sept 18.
My youngest was just diagnosed with ASD. A lot of the information in his assessment was eye opening, and I saw a minor idea of how much I don’t know and need to learn. This book was recommended by my therapist, and honestly the steps in this can help everyone and not just parents connecting with their ASD children. I know other reviews said that this was all the authors experiences and not actually helpful, but I completely disagree. Yes, in books like this many passages can be based on an author’s personal experience because it can make the information more relatable. Seeing how a method is used, or could have been used can make things click and finally make sense. This is a relatively short read, and I’ll be referencing back to it as needed. I love that the author includes a different book recommendation for almost all the topics in this. Anyway, for a parent who is completely new to all of this—this will help. It will help me think and could help me in managing myself as well as how I interact with my children, be they diagnosed with ASD or not.

Books read between Sept 5 through 11

I started a couple books, but only finished one. The others are non-fiction though, and that type of book can take me a while to finish. Plus we had a birthday party this weekend for our youngest, who just turned nine. I am frustrated that no one from school came. Oreo doesn’t really have a great understanding of social behavior so he didn’t seem to care too much. Thankfully we have friends outside of school and they did come.
I’ve noticed lately that GoodReads hasn’t been syncing my reviews from Amazon all the time. They sync the star rating only. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

The Fourth Realm by Michael Chatfield, fourth in the Ten Realms series. Five stars, finished Sept 7.
